Disco de Alabama: “The American Farewell Tour”

Disco de Alabama: “The American Farewell Tour”
Descripción (en inglés) :
Essentially the Beatles of contemporary country, Alabama spent the last two decades of the 20th century as the most popular country band ever. The fact that they were the first self-contained country group to achieve that level of success meant that they spent a lot of time taking their act on the road. After 23 years, Alabama decided to quit touring, and this compilation album is their farewell to the fans. <p>Despite the title, THE AMERICAN FAREWELL TOUR is not a live album, but rather a retrospective anthology that features most of the same career-spanning set of songs that Alabama performed on the tour in question. From the down-home, foot-stomping groove of the smash "Mountain Music" to the gentle pitter-patter of the nostalgic "High Cotton," one of the most striking things about Alabama's ouevre is the way they broke through to the mainstream without indulging in the ham-fisted power balladry or gimmicky rock-in-cowboy-drag that defined the majority of their progeny. They'll be missed.

- Not Live

The cd itself does not say live, BUT, it IS advertised that way and the copy I bought, did have the additional sticker on the front that DID advertise it as LIVE. Good collection from a great band, but if you're a fan, you've probably got every single song on here, and were disappointed that it was not indeed live... Pretty shady marketing... probably no fault of the group, but still deceptive....

- Alabama Country

This CD is full of wonderful country songs. My two favorites are #8 "Down Home" and #10 "Give Me One More Shot".

"Down Home" - Even though these guys are talking about their home in Alabama, it reminds me of my own country home. It is a beautiful country song.

"Give Me One More Shot" - (They are talking about a shot of life - not a shot of whiskey.) This song is upbeat, positive, and encouraging. It gives a wonderful message. I love it - both the words and the music.

"The Fans" (#13) literally gives me goose bumps. It is a beautiful, sweet, touching song. Another goose bumper is #20, "My Home's In Alabama".

There are so many other wonderful country songs on this CD, such as "Christmas in Dixie", "Song of the South", "High Cotton", and "Dixieland Delight". This isn't near all of them. There are so many terrific country songs on this one CD.

I've never met Alabama, and have never talked to them. But I've talked to people from Ft Payne who do know them, and they all say the same thing: that the guys are wonderful down-home country folk. I think the content of their music also tells a story about who they are. I am definitely a fan of this wonderful country music - both the words and the music.

- you are all wrong!

You are all wrong. It doesnt say it is a LIVE CD anywhere on the cd so why would you think it was LIVE. This isnt Alabama's fault. blame it on your teachers that were supposed to teach you to read. if you want to keep bashing the greatest country group ever then go ahead but they wont miss you bc you are not real fans.

- Yet another disappointing rehash of studio stuff!

It's a non-live Tour CD! What kind of retarded marketing scheme is THIS??!! It is absolutely assanine to title a collection of old studio recordings on a "A Farewell Tour" CD. Besides, this has got to be like the 10th hits compilation these guys have put out! Don't get me wrong. I dig their music, and this is a decent single CD compilation, but if you've got the 40 #1s double CD set, what do you need with this? I would have loved to have heard a live concert recording with the song list on this 20 track CD, but that isn't what you get here...
