Alan Jackson Album: “Precious Memories”
Description :
Alan Jackson: Alan Jackson (vocals, guitar); Brent Mason (acoustic guitar); Gary Prim (piano, organ); Keith Stegall (piano); John Wesley Ryles, Melodie Crittenden (background vocals). <p>On 2006's PRECIOUS MEMORIES, country superstar Alan Jackson ventures into gospel territory, offering up a set of warm and inviting faith-themed songs. These spare tracks feature no percussion and rely almost solely on piano and acoustic guitar, allowing the focus to remain on Jackson's resonant vocals and the songs' devoutly Christian lyrics. Although praising Jesus is clearly the core of this album, the beautifully minimalist renderings of spiritual classics are so soothing and pleasant that the disc's appeal is sure to extend to fans of Jackson's secular music, particularly on "Softly and Tenderly," which is enhanced by gentle organ lines, and "I'll Fly Away," here given a light, jaunty bluegrass feel. The resulting atmosphere evokes images of the Georgia-born singer/guitarist sitting in on a friendly, open-air church service, leading a sing-along of traditional numbers such as "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "I Want to Stroll Over Heaven with You."

- Great Gospel Album

Alan Jackson performs these songs the way they were meant to be sung. There seems to be some today who only want to hear contemporary Christian songs and some who only want to hear the older Christian songs. There is a place for both. Alan Jackson's rendition of these show just how great these old traditional hymns are. Simply sung, simply outstanding.

- Pure Country

I've listened to this album at least a hundred times in the

last three days. Being from Nashville and a huge Alan Jackson

fan since his earliest days, just makes this album sweeter.

Alan had an album for his father Drive for Daddy Gene and

his father passed away before it's release. This album wasn't

intended to be released commercialy, but was done at the Ryman

with very few people in attendance, his mother among them.

I think it fits with Alan's roots, and his enduring love for

his family and also his fans. I love it and just for the record

his voice is the purest voice in country music. He never misses

a beat. The inspiration is great and so is he.

- Pure, Simple, Genious!

I love this recording. As a southern baptist who loves Alan Jackson's music this is pure heaven! The production is key. I was hoping that the songs would not be over compressed and flooded with accents and stringed insturments. This is pure raw sitting in the pew hymns that are sung the way they were written to be sung.

- A Great CD

My sister told me about the CD. I'm glad she did. You won't be disappointed. Alan Jackson does a great job singing the old time favorites like Blessed Assurance, How Great Thou Art, The Old Rugged Cross, and he does a wonderful job.
