<p>Three years after his gospel album, THE OTHER SIDE, Billy Ray Cyrus took another break from his more regular TV acting stints (DOC and HANNAH MONTANA) for 2006's WANNA BE YOUR JOE, a set of accessible, mainstream country tunes. Dubiously mullet-free and sporting a shaggy hairdo that recalls Keith Urban on the cover, Cyrus stays in a surprisingly traditional-minded vein for much of the record, even collaborating with legendary performers George Jones and Loretta Lynn on the rustic "Country Music Has the Blues." Other highlights include the rock-tinged "Stand" (featuring an appearance by Miley) and the self-mockingly nostalgic "I Want My Mullet Back," rounding out an enjoyable album that will appeal to Cyrus's long-time fans.

- Cool and Country
I know that many people do not think country music, with a capital C, is cool, but no one has told Billy Ray Cyrus. This cd is 90% country with a 10% dash of rock/pop. Billy has something to say about Country Music and Country in general, and I am glad does. I have always thought it was interesting that the Mullet has been so mocked, over the years, but you can wear a ballcap askance or a clock around your neck and it is cool! :)
The band cooks and the lyrics are worth paying attention too.
What more do we need? Maybe the return of the mullet!

- Billy Ray Rocks
I received Billy Ray Cyrus's new "Wanna Be Your Joe" CD today and think it is awesome! It has a great mix of songs; ballads, rockin, sad, funny, guest vocals, and the musicans are right on. I came on Amazon to order another copy for my car.
I truly do not understand where Alanna Nash is coming from with her critical review - what's up with that! Perhaps Amazon should have people do reviews that aren't so biased.

- You Gotta Get This CD!
First of all I have to say I agree with Music Lover, Alanna Nash is way off-base on her review. This cd is awesome! It has everything you could ask for in a great cd. Wanna Be Your Joe, What About Us and I Wouldn't Be Me are some of the sweetest love songs I have ever heard. I Want My Mullet Back will surely become a popular anthem and Country Music Has The Blues is classic country in it's purest form. Don't do yourself a disservice by listening to Alanna Nash and missing out on this wonderful cd! BTW, if you have the opportunity to see Billy Ray in concert, as I was lucky enough to do on July 20, don't miss out! Despite what Amazon thinks of this album and Billy Ray I bought several copies from other retailers. I think Billy Ray really outdid himself on this album and it is one of his best ever. It's a wonderful mix of southern rock, tributes and ballads. Billy Ray is his own man and writes and records what is real to him. Too many other artists do what the record companies tell them to. I'd rather listen to a Real Man than a Puppet anyday. YOU GO BILLY!!!!!!!!!!!! |
