Disco de Billy Ray Cyrus: “Some Gave All”
Descripción (en inglés) :
Personnel: Billy Ray Cyrus (vocals), Terry Shelton (guitar), Barton Stevens (keyboards), Corky Holbrook (bass), Greg Fletcher (drums, percussion).
Additional personnel: Keith Hinton (guitar), Sonny Garrish (steel guitar), The Costo Davis Orchestra (synthesizer), Barton Stevens, Clyde Carr, Joe Scaife (background vocals).
Recorded at Music Mill Recording Studios, Nashville, Tennessee.
All songs written by Billy Ray Cyrus except "Could've Been Me" (Reed Nielson/Monty Powell), "Achy Breaky Heart" (Don Von Tress), "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" (Lee Hazelwood) and "Never Though I'd Fall In Love With You" (Jim McKnight/Mike Murphy).
One of the most explosive debuts in music history, SOME GAVE ALL catapulted Billy Ray Cyrus to the top of the charts on the strength of a catchy little ditty called "Achy Breaky Heart." The song turned out to be one of the biggest selling records of all time.
Throughout the rest of the album, the Kentucky-bred singer steamrolls through his country-styled rock 'n' roll with rough-and-tumble vocals and a swagger that's hard to match. The material ranges from ballads to country-fried rock, with themes touching upon everything from divorce ("Wher'm I Gonna Live") to patriotism ("Some Gave All").

- Excellent Debut

There's much more to this collection than "Achy Breaky Heart". (So what if it's a little on the corny side. You can't say it isn't catchy!) Billy Ray proves himself to be a talented singer & songwriter, & most of the highlights were co-written by B.R. himself. They include the honky tonkers, "Where'm I Gonna Live" & "I'm So Miserable" (Love those lyrics; "I'm so miserable without you, it's almost like you're here."), the 50's-style slow-dancer "Ain't No Good Goodbye", & the great title-track ballad. Also includes the Springsteen-ish "Never Thought I'd Fall In Love With You", as well as the radio hits, "Could've Been Me" & "She's Not Cryin' Anymore".

Forget that Billy Ray Cyrus was pretty much a one hit wonder with Achy Breaky Heart, and give his album a listen. Some Gave All,Billy Ray Cyrus first album is a great collection of country/rock. Could have been Me is great song to open the album up with. Achy Breaky Heart has to be the lowpoint of the album,it was his one huge hit and is a rather silly song, but most of the other songs on the album are good. Were am I gonna live and Some Gave All are also stand outs of this album. This is an underrated gem.

- The best Countryrock I ever heard

I found this cassette when I was just a kid. I loved it because of the song Achy Breaky Heart, but as I grew up I bought it on CD and started listening to the other songs. And this is Countryrock at its best. Nice, melodic songs with great personal texts. Cyrus got a good voice, the band is great, and the songwriting is solid as gold. The best songs here are with no doubt "Could have been me", "Someday, Somewhere, Somehow", "Never thought I`d fall in love with you" and "Some gave all". These are songs that can be listened to over and over. They all have this very personal stroke that makes it recognizable for every listener. No songs about camping in the wild and cowboys in the west, or a boring farmer here. Cyrus writes songs about love and the truth about life, and they ring true to everyone that hears it. To bad he lost a bit of his grip later on, but Some gave all will always be remembered for this great record.

- Love the mullet cut

Not only is this a classic album it represents a classic haircut.Ever since he came out I have rocked the mullet cut. This cd is simply amazing, nothing else compares.I would like to see him colaberate with Limp Bizkit, that would rock.He would make a great rock rap artist.

- Simply Classic Country

If you wanted to look for a very good classic country music CD, this is it. But on top of that, this one adds a very powerful feeling for the country that verges in the emotional with the song Some Gave All. Eventhough this was written many years ago, it really applies to the days we're living today and i really enjoy the lirycs of the song, as i totally agree with what they mean!

The rest of the songs are also excellent! And they are a perfect reflection of different aspects in the life of most Americans, however i guess they could also reflect aspects in the life of many other people in the world as well.
