Bobby Bare has always been able to project the feel of a "culture" I grew up in and miss terribly.
To hear him sing and listen to the words peels away 60 years and I can see, hear, feel, and even taste
and smell the total experience and of my youth. Rosalies Good Eats Cafe was in every little cowtown
railroad town and truckstop of my Wyoming. If you arent a bit older or from an older west and midwest
you probably wont know or care about what I'm talking about, but it was a harder but ever so much
more a more civil caring and less violent life.
When singer Bobby Bare and songwriter Shel Silverstein got together in 1973, they recorded 14 great Silverstein songs. It was pure Americana: myths, vignettes, tall tales, and novelty tunes filled with Shel's wry, risque, and sentimental lyrics, delivered in Bare's famously warm baritone. The album spent 30 weeks on the Billboard country charts, becoming his most popular release. "Marie Laveau" and "Daddy What If" were hit singles. This deluxe 2007 reissue includes a second CD with 16 additional Silverstein covers that Bare cut in the 70s and 80s, making this collection even more essential. i have always liked bobby bare and his baritone voice and to me he is kinda like a hard core cowboys dr. hook....he sings a lot of Shel Silverstein ... this has some fun songs... and enjoyable Bobby bare. i was hoping to find an album called "Cowboys and Daddies" but it seems to be one that is not available on MP3. this album has help quench my thirst for the bobby Bare i like but some day the other album will be available ... i hope.
All the tunes are wonderful. Unfortunately, because I am 68 years old, I cannot listen to "Daddy What If", because it makes my cry.
We had searched in a lot of places to find the Bobby Bare music with the songs we were looking for. Finally we found it at amazon.com. There was a specific song...titled "Rosalies Good Eats Cafe"...and sure enough, Amazon had it. This particular song is 8 minutes and 4 seconds long...a great story. We immediately ordered it and have enjoyed it very much. Thank you, Amazon!
