So far this is my favorite budget collection of the Owen Bradley re-recordings she did of her hits around 1996 (this is mentioned in her autobiography) Since she owns these recordings she can lisence them to any label and there seem to be a lot of collections floating around containing these newer recordings. I think the quality of these redone songs are great and I am happy to have these. Just long as the consumer is aware that they are not getting the original hits. This is a good cd if you want a casual overview of some of her biggest hits. Of course there is a lot missing, but this is a cheap way to start.
p.s the cd "Sings Her Greatest Hits" is also a good one, 20 songs over two discs (could have fit in one) but same price.
This compilation is re-recorded stereo versions ~ approx 1990
of some of Brenda Lee's all time biggest hits.
These up-dated recordings are well done musically and vocally.
And have excellent sound.
A more recent picture of Brenda is used, and it's stated on the front cover,
"Recent recordings by the original artist" so you'll know what your getting.
Brenda charted 55 pop hits from 1957 to 1973, and 35 country hits from 1957 to 1997.
Some of those are crossover hits.
This collection wouldn't be the one to buy to get Brenda Lee's hits.
There are more extensive sets of her ORIGINAL recordings out there.
But if you've enjoy Brenda's music over the years,
you might like this C.D. in your collection.
This is a nice pocket of Brenda's music.
It's just as good and enjoyable as ever, but with a more mature sounding voice.
Having loved Brenda's music for a many years,
I find this a treasure to have in my collection.
Footnote: There were other similar sets like this released.
The one I have is "Brenda Lee The HIT Collection, 18 tracks".
These are the same mid 1990 recordings, and were Produced by Brenda Lee Productions.
Twin Pack Music copyright 2004.
There are two songs on 'Twin Pack' that are not on the version shown here on Amazon,
"Dynamite" and "Big for poster bed".
Stated also on the front cover of the 'Twin Pack' version is, "New stereo recordings".
I bought this thinking that these WERE the ORIGINAL recordings of my favorite Brenda Lee's songs. After the first song, I realized that these were recorded when she was older, and not the spunky little numbers I was used to....she sings them well, but they show a little bit of aging in her voice, although she still does sing a great tune. I LOVE the songs, but her voice has some years in it. She's still Little Miss Dynamite!!
