DAC latest CD is a beauty, previously available on tour-only CD's. After all these years DAC still knows how the write a good song, listen to The Penny if there's any doubt. Very good album with different styles and good songwriting all the way. Highlights: The Ghost of Hank Williams (re-recording, better than original.) Standing too close to the flame, The Penny, The I found you.
awesome as always with DAC.....he still has it. mellowed some, but still has it!!! we have been huge fans of him for years......have everything he has ever done and this one is definelty up to his standards.
David Allan Coe is a singer, songwriter, and entertainer. If you really enjoy your artist that right their songs and perform them, DAC is the artist for you! I started listening to this man's words when i was fifteen and they still ring in my ears to this day! I really enjoy his "I don't care" attitude and he really deserves more credit than what is given to him!
I'm not a life-long DAC fan, but a more recent convert. He's about the only Country artist I like other than Hank 3 and a little bit of Charlie Daniels early material. I bought this CD because after trying and liking several of his older classic albums and a couple live albums, I thought I should check out his later material too, just to see how he's holding up. Well, the songs I like, I really like. There are a couple that I don't like though, that's why the seemingly low rating. First, the songs I like:
Someday You'll have Children of Your Own--pretty solid song with a good vibe.
The Ghost of Hank Williams--Probably the strongest cut on this CD, very cool song. This song was also released on another album, I don't know if there is a difference. This song also appears on the live CD, Live: If that ain't country.
Standing too close to the flame--Also a strong cut, more like southern rock.
Desperate man--3 great ones in a row, I really like this one too, more rock than country. This one is also on the highly recomended, Live:If that ain't country.
Drink Canada Dry--Another great drinking song from the master of drinking songs.
There's a couple songs on here that I would like if not for the Jimmy Buffet sounding keybords:
Then I Found You has a real cool melody and
Drinking her off my mind could also be another great song if not for the instrumentation. Too bad, maybe he'll re-record them differently one day.
That leaves the "other" songs, ones I could do without:
The only thing missing is you, The walls in this house are too thin are just too predictably cliche and sappy, DAC seems above writing these types of songs--at least to me.
It's too late now & The penny are OK, but nothing I couldn't live without. I tend to like the more upbeat, rockin' songs and the drinking songs.
So, overall, not a bad album. Over half of it is real good and the other half may be very enjoyable to you.
The CD I bought from the marketplace showed this cover, but the one I actually recieved has a different cover with him in a white suit, standing in front of a weird multi-colored background. The sleeve is cheap and is obviously from a low-budget indie company, a blurry cover photo and no lyrics, just few photos of DAC with Wayon, Willie, Kid Rock & others and a note from DAC.
Apparently this was originally a tour-only CD, now available to everyone. The sound quality is very good though and solid production throughout.
If you're a DAC fan, buy it, you'll like it.
