This collection is compiled from Dolly's recordings during the period 1987 to 1995, when she was with Columbia Records, a division of Sony. While it was not the most successful period of her career, Dolly recorded a lot of great music during that time.
The White limozeen album from 1989 is represented by Yellow roses (one of my all-time favorite Dolly songs - as good as anything she's ever recorded), What is it my love and the gospel song He's alive.
The Eagle when she flies album from 1991 - perhaps Dolly's best Columbia album - is represented by the title track (a tribute to women everywhere), Rocking years (a duet with Ricky van Shelton), Silver and gold (another brilliant song), What a heartache (a song that Dolly had recorded previously on the Rhinestone soundtrack and has since recorded again on Halos and horns) and If you need me.
The Slow dancing with the moon album from 1993 is represented by the title track, Put a little love in your heart (a cover of a sixties pop song written by Jackie De Shannon), You got me over a heartache tonight and What will baby be.
The Something special album from 1995 is represented by the title track, I will always love you (a cover of her own classic song, here done as a duet with Vince Gill), Jolene (another cover of a Dolly classic) aad Crippled bird.
Completing an excellent collection are More than I can say (from Dolly's 1987 album Rainbow), Let her fly (from the 1993 album Honky tonk angels, which featured Dolly with Tammy Wynette and Loretta Lynn) and two tracks from her live Heartsongs album from 1994, To Daddy and True blue.
This is by no means the strongest collection of Dolly's music - it may not even be the strongest for the period covered - but there is much to get enthusiastic about. If you've already got the obvious stuff and wish to explore further, you should enjoy this.
