At the beginning of the CD era, this budget compilation provided a useful addition to casual fans who also owned the first Love album, while also providing dedicated fans with some tracks that don't very often appear on compilations, and which made their CD debut here. Only five of Dolly's hits (We used to, You're the only one, But you know I love you, Sweet summer loving, Starting over again) are to be found here.
Some of the other seven tracks have made occasional appearances on CD compilations, while most of the original albums from which they are taken have also been released on CD in their entirety, but even now, one track here has yet to appear on CD, that being The love I used to call mine, which was originally released on the 1975 album Dolly, generally known as The seeker / We used to. Most of the tracks from that album have now been released on CD (including my favorite non-hit, Most of all why, which made its CD debut in 2008 on the Tour collection), but some still haven't. Another rarity is We had it all, originally released on Dolly's 1984 covers album The great pretender. I don't think it is on any currently available CD.
So this CD is a useful collection of Dolly's music for those who just want a few of her songs. As such, if you haven't got most of these songs and can buy it cheaply, go ahead. For Dolly's diehard fans, it depends on how badly they want The love I used to call mine (and maybe We had it all) on CD. I suspect that both will reappear on CD eventually, though the wait could be a long one.
