Disco de George Jones: “Super Hits/Super Hits Vol. 2/George & Tammy Super”
Descripción (en inglés) :
Also available as three separate albums: SUPER HITS, SUPER HITS VOL. 2 and GEORGE & TAMMY SUPER HITS.
This three-CD set neatly re-packages three previously available "hits" collections of the Possum, George Jones, one of the greatest country singers of all time. These songs are culled from the years 1972 through 1987, during Jones' long tenure with Epic Records and his association with producer Billy Sherrill. Sherrill's approach to country music is to soften its edges to make it appear to a wider audience, and Jones' voice--a descendant of Hank Williams Sr. and Webb Pierce--was always pure honky-tonk, sharp as moonshine.
The songs' mellow backgrounds--choruses, lush strings--were often a powerful counter-balance to Jones' expressive voice (which has an amazing range, incidentally). There's some old favorites re-done: "Why Baby Why," the rockabilly-tinged "White Lightnin," the rollicking "I'm a One Woman Man." The smoother, popier side is represented by the dark "Radio Lover" and "Shine On." As a bonus, this set includes an album of hits of Jones with his former singing and marriage partner, Tammy Wynette; the devotional "Golden Ring" and the Louvin Brothers' "When I Stop Dreaming" are classic examples of male/female country duet singing. For the smoother side of George Jones, this 3 PAK is a good deal.

- Super-Duper hits collection

this 3 CD set contains solo and duet hits. the first two volumes of Super Hits were first released in 1987 and 1992, followed by George and Tammy's Super Hits in 1996. this collection offers all three in one purchase but be aware that several of the tracks are his famed 1977 remakes {"Why Baby Why"; "The Race Is On"; "The Window Up Above"; "She Thinks I Still Care"; "White Lightnin"} and a few with Tammy weren't actual hit songs {"My Elusive Dreams"; "We Go Together" and "Something To Brag About"} either. other than that, Epic tries to showcase the "super" hits, meaning the hits that overshadow all his others or at best, the ones that radio or the fans love to hear the most. obvious inclusions are "The Grand Tour"; "The Door"; "A Picture of Me Without You"; "He Stopped Loving Her Today"; "I'm A One Woman Man"; "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes?"; "The One I Loved Back Then"; and the duets with Tammy: "Golden Ring"; "Two Story House"; "The Ceremony", etc. the first volume contains 1972, 1974, 1977, 1978, 1980, 1981, 1983, and 1985 selections while volume two contains 1972, 1974, 1977, 1983, 1986, and 1989 selections. the CD with Tammy contains a single or popular album track from the years 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, and 1980. all the songs are great but Epic needed to buy the rights to the original 1950s and 1960s hits instead of filling the CDs with the 1977 remakes.

- Country music lovers commit more suicides.....

and George Jones is most likely responsible for a good portion of the percentage of those that do so. His music is so emotional. This collection captures that emotion. Not a bad thing. Enjoy the misery. Wonderfully miserable collection. Nice to have the Tammy songs...happy days too. Excellent collection. Let me further editorialize and totally tank this review to the audiophiles by saying to the ladies: Find a man that understands "He stopped loving her today" and is moved by it. That's your man.
