Disco de George Jones: “16 Biggest Hits”
Descripción (en inglés) :
Also available in a 3-pack with JOHNNY CASH: 16 BIGGEST HITS and WILLIE NELSON: 16 BIGGEST HITS.

Recorded between 1972 and 1985. Includes liner notes by Arthur Levy.

All tracks have been digitally remastered using HDCD technology.

This is part of Legacy's 16 BIGGEST HITS series.

This is a compilation of Jones material that postdates the "Race Is On" and "White Lightnin'" years. 16 BIGGEST HITS concentrates exclusively on recordings from the '70s and '80s, proving that Ol' Possum lost not a bit of his luster as time moved on. "The Grand Tour," the title track from his 1973 album, is one of his finest heartbreak ballads ever, as he literally takes the listener on a walking tour of his emotional desolation. "Bartender's Blues" is best known to many by James Taylor's version, but guess whose take on the tune is superior. Jones' '70s classic "He Stopped Loving Her Today" is one of the finest country weepers ever recorded, and is a highlight of this collection. George's sense of humor is brought to the fore on the loopy "The King is Gone (So Are You)." 16 BIGGEST HITS is a well-rounded package chronicling an important phase in the career of country's greatest voice.

- Oh that voice!
George Jones embodies what country music is all about. There is something deeply effecting about his voice. His rich voice is also very comforting... in a strange sort of way. When you listen to George croon a song it's like slipping a warm, old blanket over your shoulders.
I guess his voice is comforting, in that you can tell George has felt pain just like we all have at one time or another.
This album is excellent. The 16 Biggest Hits series gives country music conisuers a good overview of some of the best artists of all time. George Jones is just that, One of the best!
The back of the album says that some people call George Jones, "The Rolls Royce" of country music. I would have to agree. In my opinion, "He Stopped Loving Her Today" is probably one of the best country songs ever. It's so sad and mournful it's almost melodramtic! The words of the song are haunting and memorable. Georges striking vocals wring the pain right out of the song. Once you hear it you never forget it.
There is much more great music on this album, too much to get into in this review.
Buy it... Listen to it... Live it along with George!

- George Jones nees more radio air play!!!!
This album is simply great. It is terrible that country radio stations won't play this great music. I love all country music and it is important not to forget the legeds that built it. Play some Jones if you want to hear good country music, the classic way.

- A Fine Introduction
Though I've long known George Jones's name and reputation, I am fairly unfamiliar with his music. I enjoyed this CD as a good introduction to that man's resonant voice and honest song-stylings. The disc is also very good value for money. The only downside I can suggest is that most of the songs will probably be unfamiliar to listeners looking for "standards"--but that's my problem, not Mr. Jones's.

- I wish the opossum would get on the radio more
George Jones is a classic example of country music at its finest. Country radio doesn't even give him the time of day. It will catch up with them. Were going to come out of 90's country with no legends, except GS and AJ. I love "He stopped loving her today", "Still Doin Time". I want to know who in the hell is going to fill George's shoes. Certainly not the Warren Brothers or Andy Griggs. Call you local radio station and tell them to pull their heads out of their butts.
