Released in 1974, "The Grand Tour" is a good solid album by the possum starting with the title song, (step right up, come on in, if you'd like to take the grand tour,) as George Jones twist, turns and hooks with that classic Jones phrasing that we all know and have grown a custom to. A couple of years ago there was a poll taken on who was the best country singer of all time, the answer was George Jones, without question, which is no surprise, the man is a rock and still wailing as good as ever, just listen to the album, "Hits I Missed And One I Didn't", a newer release for the possum. This Grand Tour cd was released 1996 by Razor And Tie featuring George Jones doing what he does best, mostly ballads such as the soulful, "Darlin'", plus the Johnny Rodriquez hit, "Pass Me By (if your only passing through)", and another cover of a giant hit for the late Mel Street, the classic "Borrowed Angel", also featuring an upbeat tune, as George is talking about, "The Weatherman", every song is a winner on this cd, and I would recommend to buy this Razor And Tie recording and pay a few more dollars, excellent sound and quality.
I wasn't sure if this would be a good recording. I have bought other albums of George's on CDs and been disappointed. This one, however, is really done well. The CD sounds almost as good as the vinyl. It is an excellent CD and well worth buying.
