Disco de George Jones: “The Grand Tour”
Descripción (en inglés) :
Personnel includes: George Jones; The Jordanaires (background vocals).
Reissue producer: Mike Ragogna.
Engineers: Lou Bradley, Ron Reynolds.
Originally released on Epic (33083).
THE GRAND TOUR gives the listener a front-row seat for a journey through heartbreak, regret and longing, and there's no more qualified tour guide than George Jones. Even for the undisputed king of country music, this early-'70s album was a true milestone. Jones's phenomenal, plaintive tenor was at its zenith on THE GRAND TOUR, wrapped around a group of songs as fine as any he's ever recorded.
One is hard pressed to think of a more gloriously tragic chronicle of romance-gone-wrong than the title tune, which finds Jones audibly reveling in his misery. Like a little boy who can't wait to gross you out with his insect collection, Jones drags you by the ear through a litany of domestic casualties. He plays the cuckold on "She Told Me So," where his acceptance of an unfaithful lover's lies extends to his stubborn insistence that "there's roses blooming in the Arctic Circle." Strangely, the album closes with the bitter "Our Private Life" (written by Jones and wife Tammy Wynette), which finds Jones castigating fans who look too close at his tabloid-friendly exploits, and defending his vices so proudly that you know he'll end up right back at track number one.

- Classic Jones...

Released in 1974, "The Grand Tour" is a good solid album by the possum starting with the title song, (step right up, come on in, if you'd like to take the grand tour,) as George Jones twist, turns and hooks with that classic Jones phrasing that we all know and have grown a custom to. A couple of years ago there was a poll taken on who was the best country singer of all time, the answer was George Jones, without question, which is no surprise, the man is a rock and still wailing as good as ever, just listen to the album, "Hits I Missed And One I Didn't", a newer release for the possum. This Grand Tour cd was released 1996 by Razor And Tie featuring George Jones doing what he does best, mostly ballads such as the soulful, "Darlin'", plus the Johnny Rodriquez hit, "Pass Me By (if your only passing through)", and another cover of a giant hit for the late Mel Street, the classic "Borrowed Angel", also featuring an upbeat tune, as George is talking about, "The Weatherman", every song is a winner on this cd, and I would recommend to buy this Razor And Tie recording and pay a few more dollars, excellent sound and quality.

- Grand Tour Album Is Well Worth Purchasing

I wasn't sure if this would be a good recording. I have bought other albums of George's on CDs and been disappointed. This one, however, is really done well. The CD sounds almost as good as the vinyl. It is an excellent CD and well worth buying.
