Disco de George Strait: “For the Last Time: Live From the Astrodome”
Descripción (en inglés) :
Personnel: George Straight (vocals, guitar); Benny McArthur (guitar, fiddle); Joe Manuel (acoustic guitar); Rick McCrae (guitar); Mike Daily (steel guitar); Gene Elders (fiddle); Jeff Sterms (keyboards); Terry Hale (bass); Mike Kennedy (drums); Wes Hightower, Marty Slayton (background vocals).
Recorded live at the Astrodome, Houston, Texas on March 3, 2002.
This live album marks a major event in more than one way. While any George Strait concert is an event in itself, this is the first live album the singer has released in over 25 years of recording. It's doubly significant as it marked the last night of the Houston Rodeo at the Astrodome, a four-decade tradition. Strait's name had become synonymous with the Rodeo by this time, so it was only naturally for him to play on its final night at the Dome, a pomp-and-circumstance affair that was even attended by President Bush.
The songs Strait performs with his kickin' live band run the gamut of his repertoire. There's the old-school Western swing of "Take Me Back to Tulsa," the New Traditionalist semi-modernism of "Write This Down," the honky-tonk humor of "Murder on Music Row," and much more, all delivered with Strait's rare combination of taste and charisma. Fittingly, things close out to much fanfare with the elegiac "The Cowboy Rides Away."

- im not even a country music fan

I love this cd I heard it first on a PBS special. I then got the cd and became a george strait fan (a big fan) I listened to "amarillo by morning" around 50 times as soon as i got the cd. I purchased "strait out of the box" since then (love it too) the songs are wonderful I really like the genuine feel of his songs and the energy of the music. I cant recommend this cd enought if you like country music or just great music buy this cd you will be very very plesantly surprized.......................

- One of the best!!

I personally loved this album. I have been a die hard George Strait fan ever since I can remember remembering anything. Now before you read this review, please note that while I may seem overcritical, I realize myself that I seem this way, but I just expect so much from the greatest country singer EVER!! I do have some critical spots that I would like to touch on, though. For the most part, if a song feeds off of the original tempo, then please don't speed it up as George's band did on this album on songs such as "Check Yes or No", "Write This Down" and "The Fireman". Even though "The Fireman" already had an up tempo, it still ran a little too fast in my opinion. He did a wonderful job on "I Can Still Make Cheyenne" and "Run". Now keep in mind that this was a concert and not a dance. At a dance, you might want to up the tempo to keep the crowd alive. At a concert, people go to enjoy the music and it's meaning, so there's no need to change anything. On "She'll Leave You With a Smile" again, the band sped up the rhythm too fast. If George would have taken more control and got the band to go at the right pace, then this album would be far more better than it already is. I will be buying the DVD because I want to know what extra songs he sang are on the DVD and not the album, plus I could watch a George Strait concert til I went blind. God bless "The Greatest"!!

- George Strait Live, and in Texas...as good as it gets!

What an album! George Strait is at his best as he sings for the last time in the Houston Astrodome. This cd has a great mix of old and new. Two selections, "Deep in the Heart of Texas" and "Take Me Back to Tulsa," can only be found live in concert or on this CD. The old Bob Wills tune, "Take Me Back to Tulsa," suites George Strait as well as a cowboy hat. He is Mr. Modern Day Western Swing. Former President George Bush gives George (Strait) and award during the concert and captured on the album. "Amarillo By Morning," "Heartland" and "The Fireman" are just a few of the songs George takes to another level when performed live. Like a typical George concert, the cd begins with "Deep in the Heart of Texas," and ends with "The Cowboy Rides Away." Also, George packs 16 songs on this cd. This is a must have for George Strait fans, and country music fans in general. Just one more reason George Strait is Mr. Country Music.

- THE ULTIMAATE GEORGE STRAIT ALBULM

I just bought this cd yesterday and without a doubt it is his best yet. This set spans George's entire career, and sure there are some songs that I would like to see added but not at the expense of any song hear. This set showcases a wide variety of styles including western swing which has been missing from recent George albums(finally we have Take me back to Tulsa on cd). Every song eqauls the studio recording, and some exceed it(Hartland being one that stands out). This is an essentail recording for any country fan.

- Another Great George Strait CD

I've probably got almost all of GS CD's, this being the first live CD he's done. I have to say I wasn't quite sure what this one was going to sound like but after I bought it, I was not disappointed. I have never seen the man live but it's amazing how good he sounds. I also bought it on DVD and that is really well done too. You can't go wrong with this one. It has some new songs as well as some of the "golden oldies" as he puts it. Go get it!
