Disco de Glen Campbell: “Christmas with Glen Campbell [Delta]”

Glen Campbell has recorded several Christmas albums in his incredible career. During his late 60s heyday, there was That Christmas Feeling on Capitol. It went gold. Unfortunately, those tracks are often mixed with some singles in various compilations. Fans should get a complete Christmas on Capitol, similar to the one done on Decca/MCA for Brenda Lee. In the 90s he cut some wonderful Christian albums for New Haven Records. One was Home For The Holidays. Christmas With Glen Campbell was next on Laserlight. Finally, he cut another Christmas album in connection with a TV special. This Laserlight album is his very best Christmas album. In the liner notes, he mentioned the fun he had recording it. Believe me, it shows on every track! He recorded it during his time in Branson. The band is incredible. Glen's in great vocal form. Also, there are several guitar solos, most by him. Too many of his later albums have him playing little, or not at all. His version of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" is in between the two common arrangements of this song. We also hear him on the bagpipes on "I Saw Three Ships." This is one Christmas album you will enjoy all year round. My only complaint is that it's only about 35 minutes long. You should buy a copy now.

This ablum is some of Glen's very best Christmas songs. I can remember this was one of the first Christmas albums that I heard as a child and it brings back wonderful memories. Glen has a way of expressing the feeling of Christmas through his voice. I strongly recommend this album to anyone who also enjoys Bing Crosby and John Denver.

~ Glen Campbell recorded several Christmas albums / CDs as listed on his web page and elsewhere. They have been re-packaged, shuffled, and re-issued several times. This 11-song CD was originally recorded for and released by LaserLight in 1995 =

. The cover of the CD may be different, but the 11 songs are the same as this CD. This CD is NOT the 1971 Capitol Records release with exactly the same title "Christmas With Glenn Campbell".

~ The music here has a very strong 'country' flavour, as opposed to the 'pop' flavour of his first few Christmas albums recorded for Capitol Records. His voice on this CD is perhaps not as strong as some of his earlier Christmas recordings, but he still does a fine job on the vocals. He also contributes several fine guitar solos (as does Noel Kirkland). One of the nice things about this CD is that the music is not over-produced - so often on Christmas recording producers go overboard with the orchestras and choirs, but that is not the case here.

~ Why only three stars? There is only 28 minutes of music, and there are not enough stellar moments to raise this above an 'average' rating. That is not to say it is bad; sometimes average is just fine when it comes from an artist like Glen Campbell. I personally prefer

, which needs to be re-issued on CD. Combining both of his Capitol Records Christmas albums on one CD would be great.

I purchase the LP many, many years ago and have just about played it out. When I found it on CD I was so greatful. When I received the CD it had most of the songs from the LP, but not all of them. I was so disappointed! I would really love to find the original LP done properly on a CD. The music is wonderful, and should not be fooled with!!!

This is a great compilation of Christmas music from a classic entertainer, Glen Campbell. I expect to get many years of enjoyment out of this!
