- A CHRISTMAS ALBUM WITH A HISTORY

I FIRST PURCHASED THIS ALBUM ON A LP RECORD FOR MY GRANDPARENTS IN 1967! SINCE THEN I HAVE SEARCHED EVERY CHRISTMAS FOR A CASSETTE AND/OR CD. IT IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE CHRISTMAS ALBUM, ONE YOU CAN PLAY FOR YOUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN! THE SONGS ON THIS ALBUM ARE THOSE WE ALL GREW UP WITH.

- So sweet and sentimental !

We had this about 30+ years ago on vinyl and always played it while decorating our Christmas tree. Well, you know what happened to vinyl. I have been searching for it for years in the stores, and finally found it on the internet and ordered it from the UK.

Although we have many favorites now, this is the FIRST one we get out for our Christmas music. It gives you such a warm, comfortable and sentimental feeling about the season. It's not your typical Glen Campbell album. All 4 of our grown children have this album now, and they all love it too. Try it, I think you'll like it if you want something soothing........

- It will be your favorite Holiday CD

Again like other comments posted, I too listened to this holiday classic as a child on the turntable. I have kids of my own and have been thinking about his songs every holiday season for 10 years now. I havent been able to find it until now. I'm amazed some of the original songs on this CD havent been re recorded by todays artist. Listening to these songs takes you home to chilly mornings with winters first snow beautiful christmas trees in dimly lit rooms. Even if you have never heard this holiday album before it will no doubt put you in the christmas spirit.

- A yearly chestnut from 1968

Four years did respectably on Billboard's Christmas albums seasonal charts, 1968-71, and was a Christmas bin Lp staple right up to the end of vinyl in the late 1980s, but never released here in the U.S. on CD. Oldest track on this 1968 album is his version of "Blue Christmas," which was recorded (best estimate on my part) July 3, 1963; the next earliest track was "Christmas is For Children" (spun off as a Christmas 45, Capitol 2336), recorded 4/15/68, at the same session that produced "That's Not Home" and "Dreams of the Everyday Housewife," both of which were placed on the WICHITA LINEMAN album. The balance of the tracks on THAT CHRISTMAS FEELING date between April - October, 1968. The album was certified RIAA Gold Record Award on 12/10/76, some eight years after first issue.

"Little Altar Boy" came via Vic Dana's Dolton 48 single record, recorded with Hank Levine's Orchestra, out November, 1961. "Old Toy Trains" was a Roger Miller Smash 45 single, #2130, from December, 1967. "Blue Christmas" is a 1949-50 chestnut from several 78s by Russ Morgan & His Orchestra, Hugo Winterhalter & His Orchestra, Ernest Tubb (my favorite!), and Billy Eckstine, of course. I think Elvis may have recorded a version, too....

Ernie Ford's THE NEW WAVE, POP PLUS COUNTRY PLUS FOLK Capitol ST 218 album (1969) used what appears to be much the same cover layout (same kind of turtleneck sweater!) as this album's front cover photo.

- Christmas memories

I grew up listening to this album every Christmas. My mother loved it and would play it often, especially at bedtime. His voice was so mellow and soothing. Now I sing "Little Toy Trains" to my little boy as he is going to sleep. I just had to buy this CD to start our own traditions and and memories in our little family!
