Gretchen Wilson: Most viewed pictures

Rewind: The Week in Rock Daily• We spent last weekend at the Pemberton Festival, catching performances by Nine Inch Nails, Coldplay, Jay-Z and many more. We also hung out with the Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne, My Morning Jacket, Pharrell and Matisyahu. Check out the full coverage here. This weekend, we’re back on the festival circuit with reports from Lollapalooza, so check here for all the news. • Musicians continued to get political, as Ludacris joined Team Obama with his track “Politics” (which the Obama campaign swiftly disowned) while Big & Rich’s John Rich penned an anthem to McCain’s time in a Vietnamese prisoner of war camp with “Raising McCain.” • In movie news, Howard Stern plotted a remake of the Ramones’ Rock ‘n’ Roll High School, Alicia Keys made good on her prediction and will record the new James Bond theme with Jack White, we took a look back at our favorite stoner movies and Peter Travers reviewed the new Mummy and American Teen. Plus, Cheech & Chong are going back on tour! • Lawyers were busy as the Black Crowes sued Gretchen Wilson for ripping off verses of “Jealous Again” and Billy Corgan sued a videographer for not being a very good videographer. Black Crowes Sue Gretchen Wilson Over “Saving Grace” CommercialCross-genre lawsuit! The Black Crowes are suing rednecked woman Gretchen Wilson for copyright infringement, accusing Wilson of ripping off their song “Jealous Again” in her promo song “Work Hard Play Harder.” Television channel TNT is also named in the suit, as it broadcasts Wilson’s “Work Hard” in their commercials for Saving Grace. Also named in the suit were Wilson’s publisher and label Sony BMG (way to kick Sony BMG when they’re down guys). “We find the musical verses of Wilson’s song to be such an obvious example of copyright infringement that I expect all parties to reach a relatively quick resolution to avoid litigation,” said Black Crowes manager Pete Angelus. The verses of “Work Hard Play Harder” do bear a striking resemblance to that of 1991’s “Jealous Again,” but the choruses veers in separate directions. So is it enough to file a lawsuit over? Check out the two songs after the jump and decide for yourself. Gretchen Wilson - “Work Hard, Play Harder” Black Crowes - “Jealous Again” [Photo: Getty]

Levon Helm “Thrilled” Black Crowes Will Record New LP at His Ramble StudioPhoto: Arnold/Wireimage (Robinson), McCarthy/Wireimage (Helm) The Black Crowes will record new, original material for an upcoming album during four sold-out concerts at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, New York, in February and March. This run of performances at the recording studio built decades ago by the 2008 Grammy winner and former drummer for the Band are being billed as “Cabin Fever Winter 2009.” The shows on February 21, 22, 28 and March 1 sold out in less than two days. “We’re thrilled,” Helm, who’s not scheduled to perform, tells Rolling Stone. “It kind of shows me that we’re doing things right.” Over the last few years Helm has staged “Midnight Ramble” house concerts at the studio — Saturday night performances Rolling Stone named Best Jam Session that feature special guests sitting in with the Levon Helm Band, including Elvis Costello, Phish bassist Mike Gordon and Crowes frontman Chris Robinson. Prior to singing on “Shake Your Money Maker” and “The Weight” last August, Robinson milled about in the crowd throughout the evening. “When Chris sat in, it was just more of that good stuff,” Helm says. “His contribution just added to the whole mix. The whole night was a high point.” The Black Crowes have another tie to the area, too: they recorded this year’s Warpaint at nearby Allaire Studios. David Fricke profiled the band for a Rolling Stone story earlier this year in which Rich Robinson admitted his relationship with brother Chris is still difficult: “Outside of music, we probably would never speak to each other.” Related Stories: • The Band Drummer Levon Helm Rambles On • Black Crowes Sue Gretchen Wilson Over “Saving Grace” Commercial • Levon Helm Battles Back From Cancer and Tragedy

R. Kelly Sex Tape Will Be Shown During Trial, Another James Brown Child Identified, R.E.M. To Release Live CD/DVD The judge overseeing R. Kelly’s child pornography trial has confirmed the public will be allowed to see the controversial videotape that allegedly shows the singer having sex with — and urinating on — a minor because the girl in question denies she is the girl who appears on the tape (as does Kelly). The judge said he’d consider overturning his decision if the prosecution calls the girl as a witness. Kelly’s trial begins September 17th, almost five years and twenty-two chapters of “Trapped in the Closet” after he was first slapped with child pornography charges. Ongoing DNA tests following James Brown’s death have revealed the late singer has another child; three weeks ago two more of his children were identified. My Chemical Romance, All-American Rejects, Daughtry, Big & Rich and Gretchen Wilson have been announced as opening acts for Bon Jovi’s ten-date residency in New Jersey this fall. Dates for the shows, which will inaugurate the new Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, after the jump. As various digital music services experiment with DRM-free releases to compete with iTunes, Black Eyed Peas‘ will.i.am has decided to jump into the fray. He’ll launch a digital music store on August 28th on his Web site to coincide with the release of single “I Got it From My Mama” to sell his own copyright-protection-free tracks. R.E.M. will release a live CD/DVD titled R.E.M. Live CD/DVD on October 16th, which will feature their performance at Dublin’s Point Theatre on February 27, 2005, two years before the band returned to the city to test-drive songs for a still-forthcoming album. Click here to see the DVD’s trailer, and get the tracklisting after the jump. Rock Reality Show Recap: Getting Drunk is Bobby Brown’s Prerogative on “Gone Country” Every Week on CMT’s new reality show Gone Country, a motley mix of Nashville misfits try to make it big on the Chesney tip. We’ll be watching (and chuckling): Thirty Minutes of Kentucky Fried Reality in Seven Sentences: Thirty seconds into this week’s episode, Bobby Brown is boozing. “Y’all like coffee. I like alcohol,” boasts Brown after the rooster crows on the John Rich estate. After meeting Gretchen Wilson, “the Redneck Woman,” our contestants are faced with this week’s task: shoveling horse shit and corralling stallions. After a horse attacks one of the show’s cameramen, a frightened and inebriated Brown opts to help Dee Snider shovel the shit. On top of that, Brown accidentally swallows a mouthful of Skoal, which gets him high. Our cast then goes to a local watering hole to watch Cowboy Troy perform, but Brown (who’s plastered at this point) refuses to participate in the festivities, storming out of the bar to pass out on the tour bus. Meanwhile, Dee Snider wins the horseshoe-throwing contest. The Honky-Tonkin’ Highlights: Instead of passing out, Brown spends time with Carnie Wilson on the tour bus. Wilson, at this point, just wants Brown to sleep off the booze, but Brown has other ideas. While a motherly Wilson helps take off Brown’s white Adidas, Bobby unleashes a fart aimed toward Carnie. “His butt was about like one and a half feet from my mouth, and it was like a snappy wet river,” Wilson remarks. At this point, Wilson wisely exits the tour bus. The Grand Ol’ Finale: A hungry, drunk Bobby tries to tell his shoes to get back on his feet. Later, the six other contestants board the bus, but Brown flees to hit up a BBQ joint. At 3:45 A.M., Brown finally rejoins his castmates, with a cheese steak in tow. Back at Rich’s mansion, everyone goes to bed … but Bobby Brown isn’t done yet. Brown, you see, suffers from sleepwalking, so at 4:45 A.M., Brown goes to urinate, except he doesn’t go to the bathroom
