- Good Not Great. III is getting repetitive
Has some good songs, My favorite albums were his first three albums. With my favorite being Lovesick Broke & Drifting followed by STH.
Here's the deal. I like III, I've seen him 3 times live.
But I honetly don't know if he can write an original song anymore.
Does he have a similar voice to his Grandaddy, Heck yeah he does, but his lyrics are becoming corny & stale like his Fathers music.(Hank Jr.)
How many songs do we need telling us that you're wild, like to do drugs, and get laid? Are you trying to convince us, becasue if you are we're convinced, Next subject please.
Now that's not saying all songs are bad. I enjoyed quite a bit. But I think this album was made pretty effortlessly and without a whole heck of a lot of thought.

- No Surprises
There are no surprises on the newest cd by Hank III, Rebel Within. It is musically similar, although somewhat quieter, and lyrically similar to his last few efforts, Straight to Hell (my favorite) and Damn Right, Rebel Proud. Like those last two, it is also graced with a parental advisory sticker for a few well-placed f-words. No, no surprises at all.
And, that's good.
I bought this cd wanting to hear sharply played, gutbucket honky tonk music. I wanted songs about living hard and having your heart broken. And, I wanted some straight defiance and a sense of fun. That's exactly what Rebel Within delivered. I'd listen to country radio again if they'd play songs like these.

- there's more to country music than doin dope
I have been a loyal Hank 3 fan since before his first album was released and I must say I am rather disappointed with his latest offering. While the musicianship is above reproach, the lyrics are as stale as 6 week old bread. I get it! He drinks a lot and does a lot of drugs. Good for him but I hate to say that it has consumed his mind entirely. Gone are the steel string rifts that made ya shiver, gone are the songs about lost love and country ways that made him a star in his own right. I am hoping that the lack of effort and roots is because this is his last album with Curb Records and he is saving the best stuff for a new album under a new label. I am also a fan of AssJack, Hank 3's other band, but I grow weary of hearing their lead singer just screaming randomly throughout the songs. They should put out separate albums instead of trying to pay everyone with one sub-par album. If all ya want to hear is songs about getting drunk, smokin weed and shooting heroine then this is the album for you. If you actually like music and wordsmithing then I suggest sticking with the older classics like "Risin' Outlaw" and "Lovesick.." "Rebel Within" has nothing in common with them and I hope Hank gets it together before the next album or it too will be a genuine flop. There is also no artwork just a flimsy paper cover so do yourself a favor and just download the MP3 version and save the money. Sorry Hank, but ya let me down big on this one.

Hank 3 sounds more like his grandfather than Hank jr.I love all of hank 3 music only some of it can't be played when my grandkids are here.
