- RARE Hank Jr...the MGM years

The early works of Hank Williams Jr. are very hard to find on cd. This disc, (like the other back to back collection), offers 6 gems from the MGM years.

This is a low-priced disc that will probably be out-of-print soon. Need I say more...GET THIS CD!

- Great Album

Great CD well worth the buy. Good to hear good music that has a much greater meaning than the shallow music out today

- Excellent!!

This album is made up of six gospel recordings of Hank Williams Jr and six of Hank Sr. There is an error in the track listing of the samples. Track five, "Wealth Won't Save Your Soul", is Hank Jr, not Hank Sr.

The first six tracks alone, make this cd worth purchasing. These recordings are from Hank Williams Jr's gospel album SUNDAY MORNING, released in 1969. Like most of his MGM recordings, that album is unavailable on cd, and is very hard to find. These are some of the best early Hank Jr recordings I've heard.

Instrumental backing on four of the six Hank Jr tracks are traditional country instruments; steel guitar, fiddle, piano, bass, etc. My favorites on this cd are "Wait For The Light" and "I'm Gonna Sing". On these recordings Hank is backed by bluegrass instruments such as banjo, fiddle and dobro. The sound of someone slapping a tambourine, during the chorus of both songs, adds a great "old time gospel" effect. Hank Jr is backed by a vocal group on all six songs.

The recordings by Hank Williams Sr are some of his best gospel recordings, although track eight "I'm Going Home" sounds like a demo, with instruments added later. This may be the case with some of his other recordings, but it stands out on this one, at least to my ears.

Eight of the six songs were written by Hank Williams Sr. "Wait For The Sun To Shine" was written by Fred Rose. "Jesus, Don't Give Up On Me" was written by Jack Clement and Alex Zanetis, and "The Prodigal Son" was written by Floyd Jenkins. "Jesus Is Calling" was co-written by Hank Sr and Charlie Monroe.

This is a great country gospel cd, and I enjoy it very much.
