Jim's hit career was more complicated than most, because he had different hits in different countries. So, depending on which country you live in, the tracks you regard as essential will vary. This particular collection is a British compilation. Like so many compilations of his music, this one tends to focus on his later recordings, although it does include a few early tracks, including Mexican Joe, his very first American country hit.
Everybody has their own favorites, but here you will find Distant drums, He'll have to go, I won't come in while he's there, I won't forget you, There's a heartache following me, I love you because, Welcome to my world, Adios Amigo, Is it really over, Blue side of lonesome and so much more.
Also included are his covers of From a jack to a king (Ned Miller), White cliffs of Dover (Vera Lynn), Make the world go away (Eddy Arnold), I can't stop loving you (the Don Gibson song that Ray Charles had an international hit with), Memories are made of this (Dean Martin), Roses are red (Bobby Vinton) and the traditional Irish song, Danny boy.
Some of Jim's tracks were eventually overdubbed to create duets. Those are represented here by Have you ever been lonely (with Patsy Cline), Don't let me cross over and Oh how I miss you tonight (both with Deborah Allen). None of the duets he did in his lifetime are included.
Despite some duplication, this is very different from the Australian Legendary compilation that I've already reviewed, but it is yet another magnificent compilation.
A great 4 disc set of Jim Reeves classics from the RCA label.
