- A good, solid, representative Rodgers collection
True, there are several sentimental, even "slick," songs on here, but they were part of what Rodgers did, and who he was. The disc also includes two great blue yodels, a duet with the blues guitarist Clifford Gibson, a couple of great duets with Sara Carter, of the Carter Family, and some other prizes. Rodgers was, like it or not, a showman, who did all kinds of different material. Take him on his own terms! The only real problem with the Rounder reissues, for me, is that they're a little disorganized and often have chintzy playing times (a couple of voulmes only have 13 or 14 three-minute tracks). This one has 17 tracks, which is acceptible. For someone who wants all of Rodgers, the Bear Family Jimmie Rodgers box is a better investment than buying all 8 volumes of the Rounder series.

- The place to start!
Rounder records has produced the CD to start with to get introduced to JR's music. You have a bit of everything here including some blue yodel music, a couple of tracks with the Carter Family, a gospel song, and a cut w/ Louis Armstrong! How much more can you ask for? Rounder & Bear Family are doing for Jimmie Rodgers what BMG records should be doing! This is the perfect intro to his music!

this is jimmy rodgers the successful showman.
his tone is way too happy and insincere.
