This albums is fairly good, but follows a clear pattern: the songs alternate, one after another, between rockin' upbeat selections and absolute heart-wrenching ballads.
Since the album is so formulaic, it makes rating the songs pretty easy... just gather together the even-numbered tracks, and they are far and away the best cuts off the album.
That's not to say the odd numbered tracks don't have their moments, because some of them do. Many of them are plain bad, however, like "C-O-U-N-T-R-Y" and "Back to the Cave".
Anyway, back to the even-numbered tracks. They are so good, that they easily carry this album to 4 stars. Specifically, "Tears in the Rain" is probably the best song he has ever recorded. "I'm Willing To Try" is also a 5-star effort, followed closely by "She Loves Me".
Overall, it is a good album, except for some of the over-the-top attempts at humor. His best work is the sad stuff, which he does stunningly well. See his newer album "Tougher Than Nails" for a good example of what else he is capable of.
there are so many good songs on this album he is such a funny guy singing down in the ditch then he nails the ballads like she love me, whole lotta gone, and tears in the rain definintly one of my favorite albums
