Johnny Cash Album: “Blood, Sweat & Tears”

Johnny Cash Album: “Blood, Sweat & Tears”
Description :
Also available in a 3-pack with RING OF FIRE and BITTER TEARS: BALLADS OF THE AMERICAN INDIANS.
Personnel includes: Johnny Cash, The Carter Family.
Producers: Don Law, Frank Jones.
Reissue producer: Bob Irwin.
One of Johnny Cash's many 1960's concept albums, BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS is dedicated to chronicling the daily lives and the folklore of American laborers. By the early 1960s (when this album was released), Cash had moved away from the spare, "boom-chick" sound he had perfected at Sun Records, adopting instead a folkier milieu. On BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS, banjos, autoharps, and background vocals by the Carter Family flesh out arrangements built around Cash's voice and acoustic guitar.
Cash, who grew up picking cotton and later served a four-year stint in the Air Force before his music career took off, has an affinity for songs about hard work and working-class resentment. As a result, this album benefits from an authenticity that is less apparent in some of Cash's other concept albums from this period. A masterly, heart-rending version of "The Legend of John Henry's Hammer" kicks off the album; other highlights include Harlan Howard's "Busted" (the same song was a hit for Ray Charles), "Tell Him I'm Gone," "Casey Jones," and the Sheb Wooley composition "Roughneck."

- Where I'll make a living, the Lord only knows.

This 1963 album by Johnny Cash features songs about "the working man". The single from the album was "Busted", which was a #13 Country hit (Ray Charles later covered it and had a pop hit with it). The other song that everyone remembers is the epic "The Legend of John Henry's Hammer". Both of those songs are great, and so is everything else on the album. Johnny really had an affinity for these kind of songs, and it really shows here. Highly recommended to Johnny Cash fans.

- Mistake

There is not June CARTER on 'another man done gone' but his sister Anita (as John L. SMITH credit, on ther Johnny Cash Discography p.24)...

- A real good cd to sing along with .

This cd is a great combination of Johnny Cash and the Carter's. My favorite songis the duet with June Carter (A nother man done gone). The whole cd is absolutly great.

- Great, lesser known Cash album

This is a truly remarkable Johnny Cash album that is largely under the radar screen of most Cash fans. Its certainly vintage Cash: gritty, almost depressing in parts, but a great edition to any Cash library.

- Great Music

This album really is a great collection of Johnny Cash music. I never tire of hearing him pluck 'n sing.
