Johnny Cash is a country icon. His music is among the finest ever made. His music has touched generations. And in 2002, he was given a collection in UMG's '20th Century Masters.' And, in 2007, he was given a second volume in the series.
I prefer the first volume. But, the second volume is still great.
So how does this collection measure up?
Positives
-Most of Johnny Cash's 1980s and 1990s hits are here. 'Highwayman,' 'W. Lee O Daniel,' and 'Goin' By The Book' all appear on his set.
-Great remakes of 'Ring of Fire,' 'Sixteen Tons' and 'Ballad Of A Teenage Queen' also appear on this set.
-The sound quality is excellent.
Negatives
-During his tenure on Mercury, Cash did a great reworking of Kris Kristofferson's classic 'Sunday Morning Coming Down,' and that would fit nicely on his set.
Overall, this is a nice set to own if you're a Cash fan looking for a brief retrospective during his tenure on the Mercury label. Highly recommended for any Cash fan. ENJOY!!!
I bought this for my 10 year old grandson. And he is actually even more entranced by Johnny Cash than I am! A great album!
