Kenny Chesney Album: “Me and You”

Kenny Chesney Album: “Me and You”
Description :
Personnel: Kenny Chesney (vocals, guitar); Don Potter (acoustic guitar); Brent Rowan (electric guitar); "Cowboy" Eddie Long, Paul Franklin (steel guitar); Joe Spivey (fiddle); Bobby Ogdin, Barry Beckett, Phil Naish (keyboards); Michael Rhodes (bass); Eddie Bayers (drums); Terry McMillan (percussion, harmonica); Mandy Barnett, Curtis "Mr. Harmony" Young, Dennis Wilson, John Wesley Ryles (background vocals).
Pricipally recorded at Masterfonics, Nashville, Tennessee.
Disdaining the power-ballad pop-rock style favored by many contemporary Nashville artists, this young cowpoke concentrates on straight-ahead, two-stepping honky-tonk numbers on his second album. Chesney has an earthy, unpretentious vocal style, and he likes to sing simple, direct songs. "Turn For The Worse" and "(Turn Out The Light And) Love Me Tonight" are powerful evidence of his way with a country footstomper, while the gentle, piano-based title track shows off his dynamic range. If you're a fan of artists like Lee Roy Parnell and Shawn Camp (both of whose compositions appear here), you're bound to appreciate the modern country sound of YOU AND ME.

- Good Album

Kenny Chesney's 1996 album ME AND YOU provides some of his best ballads, and uptempo songs. His voice is distinct, and offers different elements to each song, bringing them to life. While there was nothing truly groundbreaking on this CD, it still has some exciting material worth listening to. The ballad "Me And You" is a touching love song. The ballad "When I Close My Eyes" is one of his most touching ballads, with a good indication of what he has to offer voally. There are quite a few uptempo songs on here as well. "Back Where I Come From" is one of his favorites he has quoted in interviews, a song about remembering where you've come from, and where you're going. He does an excellent cover of the Don Williams hit, "(Turn Out The Lights And) Love Me Tonight". Other highlights include "Aint That Love", "Back In My Arms Again", "Another Friday Night" and "It's Never Easy To Say Goodbye". Overall a consistent album, not his best, but definately worth a listen.

- Good all-round modern country

Kenny Chesney is one of the more distinctive male country vocalists, country-to-the-core, with his clipped vocal style, allowing him to make each song distinctively his. There is no great groundbreaking material on this CD, but the album is entertaining and five years after its release remains a better purchase than the latest albums from Tim McGraw and even George Strait. Chesney concentrates mainly on upbeat songs on this collection, the best of which are Another Friday Night, Ain't That Love and the radical reworking of the Don Williams hit, (Turn Out The Lights And) Love Me Tonight. Chesney is equally strong on ballads, the material on this album being particularly strong: Me And You is a classic wedding song, When I Close My Eyes showcases Chesney's impressive vocal range, and the heartbreaking It's Never Easy To Say Goodbye closes the album in style. There isn't a weak track on the album - how often can that be said about any mainstream Nashville release?

- Great CD

Me And You is Kenny Chesney's third album, and a great album at that. Kenny shows us once again his romantic side on ballads like When I Close My Eyes, Me And You and more. There's also the get up and dance and sing songs like Back In My Arms Again, Back Where I Come From and more. His voice is beautiful and it harmonizes beautifully. This is a great album, I highly reccomend it.

If you like Kenny a lot, then you will appreciate this cd which was made when he first started. If you are a fan of his more recent music, the stronger country flavor of this cd may not be your cup of tea. I love any and all his stuff so I think it is great.
