While Chesney surrounds himself with the same studio vets (Larry Byrom, Brent Mason, Matt Rollings, etc.) that accompany 90 percent of his contemporaries, I WILL STAND sets itself apart by virtue of its nod to tradition. While he's not exactly Robbie Fulks, Chesney is clearly influenced by greats like George Jones and Merle Haggard. Instead of going for the across-the-board appeal of big, soppy power ballads, Chesney favors more authentic-sounding country fare. Titles like "From Hillbilly Heaven to Honky Tonk Hell" give you an idea where Chesney's sensibilities lie.

- Strong Effort

By the time this album came out, Kenny Chesney was beginning to make a name for himself in country music. His past hits included The Tin Man, Fall In Love, Me And You, When I Close My Eyes, Back Where I Come From and more. He started making an even bigger noise with this cd, I WILL STAND. The first single, and opening track, "She's Got It All" is an upbeat country song, which was a huge hit due to its catchy lyrics and just being a great song overall. The album features some compelling love songs/ballads, such as "You Win, I Win, We Lose", "I Will Stand", "A Chance" and more. Also, a big song is the song "That's Why I'm Here" about a man with a drinking problem. Other well talked about songs include the cover of the Tina Turner song "Steamy Windows" (which he sure does justice to), the collaboration with Tracy Lawrence and George Jones on "From Hillbilly Heaven To Honky Tonk Hell", and the acoustic version of his hit single "When I Close My Eyes". This is overall a really satisfying album, and its clear that with this album and his ones that come after it, Chesney will be around for a while.

- KC's best so far

This is the only Kenny Chesney album I have and I still listen to it a lot. It has many great hits on it and most of the ones that weren't hits should've been hits in my opinion. "She's Got It All" is one of my favorite country songs of all. "When I Close My Eyes" and "A Chance" were also some of the best love songs of the year. The album also has a couple more hits in the title track and "That's Why I'm Here." Other songs such as "You Win, I Win, We Lose" are also good songs in their own right and like I said, they aren't bad either.

I Will Stand is Kenny Chesney's best album to date and if you get it, you probably won't be disappointed. If you get any of Kenny Chesney's albums, I would recommend getting this one. Kenny Chesney is one of the most underrated singers in country music today, but he is slowly creeping up their with the superstars and this album was the one that got most people to notice the talent that he has.

- Excellent

After the release of this album in July 1997, there was no denying after its release that Kenny would go far. This album contains some of his biggest hits. She's Got It All, the first single, shot to #1 which is no surprise, its a great fun summer time song. On You Win, I Win, We Lose its a nice ballad about a couple agreeing to compromise and not to fight over whos right. She Gets That Way is a nice track as well. I Will Stand is a beautiful ballad, which deserved to be a single. That's Why Im Here is the emotional ballad that was released and succeeded on country radio, about a man with a drinking problem. Steamy Windows is a cover of the Tina Turner classic. From Hillbilly Heaven to Honky Tonk Hell is a duet with Tracy Lawrence and George Jones. Other mentionable tracks include the ballad A Chance which was a mild country radio hit, and the acoustic version of his popular ballad When I Close My Eyes. This is a must have for any country fan, you wont know what your missing out on til you hear it!

- #1

After one listen to this c.d. I realized just how underrated Kenny Chesney really is. This c.d. just dosen't have a couple good songs and the rest crappy songs, like a lot of albums do. Every song on this c.d. could be a #1. There is a lot of variety, but nothing lacks from being the best! This isin't a one hit c.d.! It is definately one of the best that I own.
