- Rogers' classics are re-recorded for a new classic
Entertainer Kenny Rogers had hit after hit in the late '70's. "The Gambler," "You Decorated My Life," and 1980's "Lady" were all monster hits. These and many other Rogers songs have turned into classics. In 1991, Kenny Rogers re-recorded 10 of his timeless hits, and released "20 Great Years." Reprise Records did a fine job of compiling a great "hits" album. All of Rogers' major hits of that era are included. The new arrangements are excellently done. Rogers used his touring band to record the album, rather than studio musicians. The result is a record that sounds like one of Rogers' concerts. It is like having Rogers in your home. New and old fans will love this album. It is certified gold (500,000 units) by the RIAA. Also, try: "Greatest Hits," Kenny Rogers (Liberty, 1980) "Across My Heart," Kenny Rogers (Magnatone, 1997)

- It's Okay....
Don't get me wrong it is a good CD, but it doesn't sound the same re-recorded. Some of the fondest memories of my father was listening to the LP of Kenny Rogers with him. I guess I'm just a little nostalgic. I guess I'll have to burn the LP to CD! Otherwise it is a good CD. Enjoy.
- Get any other best of Kenny Rogers CD
I picked this up on impulse this week. The songs sounded "tinny" poor mastering, and not the songs I remembered. Plus... there are a lot of Kenny Rogers songs that I like that are not on this CD.
Looking at Amazon today, I see that almost any of the other,(and there are a lot) of Best of Kenny Rogers collections have a much beeter collection of songs, and one would hope for better production as well.
Skip this CD.
- re-recordings a plenty
this 10 song collection would be great had they been the original versions. the reason i say this isn't because i HATE remakes and re-recordings. it's because of the impact these particular songs had on the music industry and how a re-recording fails to capture the "sound" of the original even though the songs and artist are the same. in my opinion anyway that's why i prefer original versions but if they've become out of print and hard to find, re-recordings aren't that bad as a substitution until the real things come along. however, Kenny's original versions are STILL available {check out "20 Greatest Hits" on Liberty} so like the other reviewer said, this is only for completists who want to have nearly everything on Kenny that's out there.
