Disco de Kris Kristofferson: “Breakaway”

The husband and wife team of Kris and Rita were the darlings of the 1970's, and this album, recorded in 1974, was designed to be the follow up to their first collaboration, the excellent Full Moon. Kris and Rita were smart in their joint albums in that they met in the middle: mostly with covers of really great songs.

Apparently most of the songs were set in in the proper key for Coolidge to sing, which kind of made Kristofferson work all that much harder, and the result is some of his best vocals ever.

The song selection here is quite good too, including two of Kristofferson's own more obscure tunes, I'd Rather Be Sorry and I've Got To Have You (which was previously covered by Carly Simon on her Anticipation album). Another gem includes Rain, penned by country great Larry Gatlin.

It's been a long time coming to see the release of this album on CD -- most of us had to settle for vinyl until now. If you're a fan of either Kristofferson or Coolidge, or you're already familiar with their all-too-brief collaborations (they divorced both personally and professionally), you won't be disappointed with this CD.

I have this album on vinyl and it was always a favorite of mine. Decided to get it on a CD so I could listen to it on my CD player upstairs - I love to turn up the volumn and sing along in the shower.

All the songs are great and Kris and Rita are just brilliant singing together. If you are a Kris Kristofferson fan, you will enjoy this CD.

I hadn't heard Kris and Rita in awhile, so I was glad to find this album available on CD. They sound so nice together and the song selection is great. I think I've listened to this every day since I got it. Highly recommended!

Kris & Rita really pour it on for this album from 1974 . From the fun , cute little song - " Lover Please " to " Crippled Crow " , this album is terrific ! The highlight for me though is " I've Got to Have You " , it's about 2 people who see each other for the 1st time and instantly fall in love

so this is great . " Crippled Crow " is done as a duet here but it was re-done for the movie " A STAR IS BORN " in a different style . GET THIS ALBUM FOLKS !!!! 5 out of 5 ..

My wife and I went to see Kris Kristofferson a few months ago and decided to get a few of his CD's. I just love it.

We also saw Rita Coolidge and Kris back in 1973 in Washington DC.
