- Have a good time. Don't be concerned about me.

This album was originally released under the title COUNTRY CHRISTMAS in 1967. It features an equal mix of traditional Christmas songs and new Christmas songs. The originals are good, especially the nostalgic "Country Christmas" and the humorous "To Heck With Ole Santa Claus". And Loretta sings the traditional songs well, too. A solid Christmas album the Loretta Lynn fans will love. But it would have been nice if Loretta's rare 1974 single "Shadrack, the Black Reindeer" b/w "Let's Put Christ Back in Christmas" had been included as bonus tracks.

- The Only Christmas Album Ever Done By The Great Loretta

This 1966 stereo album from Country legend Loretta Lynn, produced by the equally-legendary Owen Bradley, first came out as Decca DL 74817 and since then has been re-released a few times by MCA (1973 and 1980 also in vinyl) before coming out as part of the massive 20th Century Masters series. The contents are: Country Christmas; Away In A Manger; Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town; Silver Bells; Blue Christmas; It Won't Seem Like Christmas; To Heck With Ole Santa Claus; White Christmas; Frosty The Snowman; Christmas Without Daddy; I Won't Decorate Your Christmas Tree; Gift Of The Blues. It remains the only Christmas album ever done by Loretta.

As you can see, much of the album, which includes the talents of The Jordanaires, Elvis' long time backing vocal group, and Hal Rugg's steel guitar, offers up a mix of standard carols and Pop/Country hit covers, but there are also some original sides, including one Loretta wrote herself, To Heck With Ole Santa Claus. This also came out in 1966 as a single b/w It Won't Seem Like Christmas on Decca 32043. That never charted, but the album did make it to # 103 on Billboard's Top 200.

If you're a Country fan in general, and a Loretta Lynn fan in particular, you will want this one around during the Holidays.
