- More Mellow
This cd that came out in the late '80s was a more mellow effort than the previous two. It even starts out with a ballad, "What Would You Do..." was the b-side of the first single off this cd, which happened to be the title song. I always thought that to be weird, since b-sides are supposed to be "weaker" songs. Why would they want a song not good enough to be the lead single to open an album. MMMM we're not off to a good start on this. The next song "Slowly but Surely" is an improvement over the first. It is a traditinal sounding country song, certainly more country than anything she had done in the '80s. Without going over each song, "If You Think About It" is a toe-tapping country-pop song that should have been a single. It's similar in the vein of "Theres No Stopping Your Heart" and "I Only Wanted You". THe last two songs "Love Speaks Louder Than Words" and "Let Me Be the First" should have been the two songs that open up the cd since, in my opinion, they are much much stronger songs. Again, they are up-beat and her vocals are pure Marie. I don't mean to be down on the slow songs on this cd, but they are not up to some of her others such as "I'll Be Faithful to You" or "More Than Dancing". Still check this one out. You can't miss with Marie.
- Pleasing material
Marie Osmond has a beautiful voice, and this album is pleasing. Steppin' Stone was released in 1989. All ten of the songs are likeable. Also, the album sports a laid-back quality to it. My favorite songs are "What's a Little Love Between Friends," "A Too Blue Moon," and "Let Me Be the First." "What's a Little Love Between Friends" is a pretty one, while "A Too Blue Moon" has a nice refrain, and "Let Me Be the First" features smooth harmony vocals during the chorus. The CD is almost 35 minutes. The song lyrics are not included in the CD insert. Steppin' Stone is a recommendable piece of work.
