- pop goes the 97s
For Old 97s purists this single and the album Fight Songs from which it came is a betrayal. Get over it. Nineteen is a pure piece of candy coated pop perfection that could have been written ten years ago when Rhett and Murray had a pop trio by the name of the sleepy heroes. The Villian is an interesting tune that is rumored to be the favorite of one Frank Black late of the Pixies. This single is a great introduction to the new Old 97's . If you like what you hear be prepared for a musical adventure when you go back further in the catalog. If you are looking for hooks that embed themselves permanantly in your mind, and lyrics that challenge, move and entertain, then this is the band for you. This single is just a taste, a dip into the shallow end... take the plunge into the (very) deep end and buy everything this band has ever recorded. In the words of one reviewer "buy these records, these guys deserve your money"
- 19 is addicting!
I first heard this song on 1630 AM Stereo KCJJ in Iowa- and I live in NY! It stuck in my head to the point that I had to call the station to find out who it was. I immediately ordered the Fight songs CD. You will NOT be sorry.
- Heck yeah, that's entertainment
Let me be the first (ok, the second) to tell you how great this single is. Way back when, the Old 97's got under my skin and now they are a part of who I am. This single just goes to prove how much the band has waitied for their "big break" and hopefully "19" will be it. Sure we've seen the boys on Conan, now let's get them into the big time! Come on, Texas! Buy this CD!
