I was born in 1970, so I didn't grow up with any of these songs. I've heard a few of them, so I decided to take the plunge and buy this $20 double disc set. Was I disappointed? Heck no!!!
The thing that stands out in my mind with this recording is how simplistic the song lyrics, structure and delivery are. The lyrics so simple and predictable, yet carry strong messages. You don't have to encrypt lyrics, like they do today, to get across a point. The song structure is slappingly simple too, with most songs running between two and three minutes. You won't find any Paradise By The Dashboard Lights or American Pie marthons here. (By the way, those songs are each over eight minutes!) Lastly is the delivery by Patsy Cline. She sold her songs on her vocal delivery. She didn't need to have tribal drums and synthesizers playing in the back (although neither was around during her time), but it's the simplicity that makes it great.
This is a definite buy if you want to keep around a musical "time machine" that will take you back...back to when things were a bit purer and less complicated...
This is a great 2-set cd overview of Patsy's career, this set contains more of the country-pop songs by Patsy, whose Wonderful voice is still the measuring stick for country female singers, Patsy was a great talent and this set is a great start for someone being introduced to her for the first time or long time fans looking for a nice collections of her songs in one place. I first heard and fell in love with her voice in 1978 with 'I Fall To Pieces' and I've been a fan ever since, and still get those same chills when I hear her Voice!
The person I bought this cd for is very pleased and happy. She enjoys the "old" music and is looking forward to having more
Great compilation. Contains many great songs. She died when I was a toddler, but I can remember these tunes from then.
This CD was supposed to be a 2 cd set but I only recieved 1 cd in the cd case. The jacket that came with this cd shows listing for 2 cd's but there is only 1 cd in the case. I e-mailed the company that sent it to me but have not heard anything from them yet.
