You certainly can't tell Georgia girl Trisha Yearwood is 43 years old from the cover of her new album, but if you compare a song like "Not a Bad Thing," a meditation on the benefits of being alone, to her first hit, "She's in Love with the Boy," she seems to have both mellowed and grown considerably since 1991. The lofty title of Yearwood's 11th studio album, Heaven, Heartache, and the Power of Love, belies the intimate and thoughtful tenor of the songs it contains. It's not that Yearwood doesn't choose some peppier tunes—the title track is a rockier case in point—but the overall record has a certain softness to it, not to mention that Yearwood does a better job selling the sweeter numbers, on which her growl is reined in. The instrumentation throughout is simple, allowing the focus to be primarily on Yearwood's versatile voice. The up-tempo "They Call It Fallin' for a Reason" won't be mistaken for a Patsy Cline number, but it's upbeat without being too
