Sara Evans Album: “Born to Fly”
 Description :
Personnel includes: Sara Evans (vocals); Paul Worley (acoustic, electric & 12-string guitars, 6-string bass); Dan Dugmore (acoustic & steel guitars); Randy Scruggs (acoustic guitar, banjo); Biff Watson (acoustic guitar, bouzouki, mandolin); Marcus Hummon (acoustic guitar); Robbie Turner (steel guitars); Jerry Douglas (dobro); Aubrey Haynie (fiddle); Steve Nathan (piano, Fender Rhodes piano, Hammond B-3 organ, synthesizer); Bruce Hornsby (Wurlitzer piano); Glenn Worf (bass); Matt Chamberlain (drums); Ricky Scaggs, Troy Johnson, Wes Hightower (background vocals).
<p>Recorded at The Money Pit, Nashville, Tennessee.
<p>Sara Evans made her initial splash as a country traditionalist--with a cover of Buck Owens' "Tiger By the Tail" no less--but it's safe to say that nobody listening to this album is going to mistake it for the second coming of the Bakersfield Sound. Frankly, it's hard to imagine Owens crooning, as Evans does here, a Diane Warren power ballad. And several of the songs here are, deliberately, aimed at a broader pop audience; eliminate Evan's country twang and replace the Hammond organ with synths on "Let's Dance," for example, and you have a potential hit for Britney Spears.
<p>That said, there's a lot of impressive music here, in particular the title song, which features jaw-droppingly virtuoso dobro work by the legendary Jerry Douglas; Evans's singing throughout is a marvel of expressiveness. Standout tracks include "I Keep Looking," one of the catchiest odes to spiritual unrest ever written, and "Every Little Kiss," a neo-Cajun Bruce Hornsby song with typically fluid piano flourishes by the composer himself.

- Must Have
I've always thought Sara Evans was an excellent singer, but just pair her up with this set of excellent songs and she demonstrates she was definately "Born to Fly". This is one of the best CD's I've purchased in a while and I'm an avid collector of all types of music. It' so hard to pick a favorite song because they are all so good. I just bought this today and have listened to it three times all the way through without stopping. I recommend this to anyone and predict lots of sales. I rate it #1

- Too much "twain" and not enough "twang"
Sara Evans is a great country singer, witness "Three Chords and the Truth". She is also a great modern country artist, witness "No Place That Far".
"Born to Fly" is a another good set of music. There isn't a bad song on the whole album. That's the good news. The bad news is that "Born to Fly" contains 5 minutes of country music and 47 minutes of pop-groove country-ish music. The songs are very listenable, even repeatedly listenable, but there's just too much "twain" and too little "twang" in this stuff. With the exception of one song, "I Learned That From You", this is a pop-country album. Sara doesn't quite seem to be on the Shania-and-Faith-track but she's taken a bigger step from country music with this album than she did with "No Place That Far". If you're expecting to hear the steel guitar cry then this album will disappoint you in a big way. If, however, you can tolerate your country by a great singer but in a somewhat diluted form then you will like "Born to Fly".
I can't help but wonder what George Jones and the other old timers who helped Sara get started in the business think about where she's gone, can't help but imagine that they think she's sold her country soul for the pop dollar.

- No need to skip
Imagine this...an album full of good songs...no you are not dreaming, this is one of those albums. Every track is sung with passion and the lyrics aren't just teenieboppin fluff to fill in the time between radio singles . What stands out for me is Sara's unique voice...strong, sassy, and yet soothing. I can listen to this cd over and over again...every track. My favs are 'Four-Thirty', 'I Learned That From You', 'Saints and Angels' and 'Why Should I Care'. There is plenty of range from upbeat to sad songs, both of which Sara performs beautifully. This is a classic, one that I know I will listen to years from now and love it just as much as the first week I listened to it. If you are not familiar with Sara, this is the cd to buy!!

- Keeps getting better...
I've really enjoyed listening to Sara's latest CD Born to Fly. I was a little unsure of what this CD would be like. Never bought a country CD from a female artist before but I was really impressed with her video and first single. I took a chance and spent $15 on this CD and it has been worth every penny. She picked great songs to cover and she also co-wrote several songs on the CD (which is uncommon with Nashville artists). She also does a great cover of Bruce Hornsby's Every Little Kiss
and has Bruce play piano on the track. It's more pop than country but it's a great disc! She also covers a song that Edwin McCain did a few years ago that will be a great cross over single, I Could Not Ask for More. Easy listening for any music fan.

- A must have for any Sara Evans fan
Most anyone who is a true Sara Evans fan would have the "Born to Fly" album in their collection. I would suggest buying the import album even though it only has one extra song. The song "You" is truly worth it.
