- Another great Statlers album
This album, originally released in 1986, is exactly what you would expect of the Statlers - mostly original songs about love, life and nostalgia, with the occasional cover.
Here, there are two covers. Only you (Platters) is famous and suits them ideally. I've come across a fair number of covers of Roger Miller's songs but the Statlers avoided all the obvious songs (King of the road, Husbands and wives, In the summertime when you don't want my love, England swings, Walking in the sunshine), selecting instead the obscure but brilliant You oughta be here with me.
Most of the songs have an upbeat, happy feel to them, especially I don't dream anymore (about dreams coming true), Count on me, We got the memories and Forever. All of them (and the other songs) are brilliant but my favorite on this album is More like my Daddy than me.
This album won't win any new fans for the Statlers, but will please all their existing fans.
- I love it
No problems here! I love every song. I would buy it again if I could. They are four independently wonderful artists who enjoyed each other's company and skills.
- Statlers are Musical Group of the Century!
There will never be another group who can harmonize like the Statlers. Such great singers and entertainers. Love them "Forever".
- Statler Brothers Four for the Show
Good Album , but not their best work. As a Statler fan, I still like it. I always liked them because I could sing all their songs.
- Vintage Americana Music by Country Music's best Quartet Ever
The Statlers were always geniuses when it came to writing and selecting songs that painted portraits of America that all Americans can relate to. This album illustrates that beautifully. I am delighted they never turned to "country rock" whatever that is (whatever it is, it's not country) but stayed true to what they did best. Maybe that kept them from selling as many records as they might have, but their honesty made their fan base stay with them, and, thanks to us, they all have comfortable retirements.
