Statler Brothers are the greatest! I have not tripped over a song on this album that I would not play and repeat ad infitum.
The enforced retirement of Lew DeWitt through illness actually turned out well for the remaining members of the group. The replacement for Lew, Jimmy Fortune, not only fitted in well with the rest of the group vocally but also proved to be a fine songwriter. On this, his first album with the group, he contributed a song that became a country number one hit (Elizabeth), apparently inspired by watching a movie (Giant). The group had already had several big country hits with songs about the movies, so Jimmy's love of the movies showed how well he fitted in with them.
Apart from Elizabeth, my favorites include Oh baby mine, Some memories last forever, Guilty and Right on the money but there are many wonderful songs here including a cover of the traditional Sweet by and by.
If you enjoy the music of the Statlers, you'll enjoy this album.
