Personnel includes: Tim McGraw (vocals); Biff Watson, Larry Byron (acoustic guitar); Brent Mason, B. James Lowry, Michael Landau (electric guitar); Paul Franklin (steel guitar); Aubrey Haynie (fiddle); The Nashville String Machine (strings); Steve Nathan, Jeff Babko (keyboards); Glenn Worf (bass); Lonnie Wislon, Peter R. Thomas (drums); Chris Rodriguez, Gene Miller, Curtis Young, Faith Hill (background vocals).
Producers: Byron Gallimore, James Stroud, Tim McGraw.
Engineers include: Julian KIng, Ricky Cobble, Samie Barela.
SET THIS CIRCUS DOWN was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Country Album. "Grown Men Don't Cry" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance.
Don't hate Tim McGraw because he's married to one of the most glamorous women in contemporary country music (Faith Hill). Don't hate him because he wears a ten-gallon hat and sings about "The Cowboy In Me" while utilizing more image consultants than a Vogue fashion shoot. Hate him because he's so damn good at what he does. Whether you're an old-school country traditionalist or a card-carrying McGraw disciple, you can't deny the seamless production, hook-filled songcraft, and flawless vocal and instrumental performances that make up SET THIS CIRCUS DOWN. As on previous efforts, McGraw amiably combines country convention with pop-rock production. From the widescreen nostalgia of "Telluride" to the acoustic guitar-based ballad "Angry all the Time," CIRCUS handily picks up where 1999's A PLACE IN THE SUN left off. If you're overtaken by one of these songs on your car radio one day, we dare you not to sing along.

- Buy a ticket for this circus!

As a loyal Tim McGraw fan I ran out and bought the CD and I love it! I have listened to it several times and I am moved by this collection of songs. "Grown Men Don't Cry", "Angry All the Time" and "Why we said Goodbye" are examples of strong ballads that show maturity in this artist. Songs such as "Let me Love you" and "Angel Boy" give the album some spice. The song "Things Change" is a great reminder about what music is all about. Thank you for a great follow up to "A Place in the Sun"! A job well done!

- One of the Best country cd's. WRITTEN BY A NON COUNTRY FAN!

My fiancee is a huge fan of Tim Mcgraw's. At night we pick 5 cd's and let them play (in order) When she wanted to add this one, me not being much of a country fan i wasnt too happy, but she gets 2 picks and so do i so what the hey ya know?

The cowboy in me: wasnt a favorite at first. the guitar outro was impressive to me but that was the best part.

Telluride: on the other hand was VERY WONDERFUL! I just bought a 45 for my jukebox with this on the b-side of his new hit live like you were dying. More of a rock song with a southern/country feel than a country song, it is clearly one of the best 2-3 songs on this album!!!!

You Get Used to Somebody: has some of the best lost love lyrics i have ever heard. "I never dreamed when i was letting you go that i would wake up and miss you this much"

Unbroken: is one of the radio singles. It is a great song with alot of pep to it. One of the almost best songs on the album (not part of the best 3 i referred to in Telluride but darn close!)

Things change: i didnt like at first but after seeing him perform it live i gained a better appreciation for the song. Truer words havent ever been spoken. In music things change all the time!

angel boy: One of those 3 best tunes. A country song with a rocking edge to it. KICK BUTT guitar solo to end the song!!!!

Forget about us: He might not write his songs, but this actually makes his songs better. Think about this, Tim didn't write this lost love song, but he sounds like he truly believes EVERY word like he is CURRENTLY living the pain and sorrow. He also sounds like he is going to cry his eyes out while singing it. Being so in love and having no problems with Faith Hill, makes me wonder how he does it. But he can, that makes me respect him as a performer. The only bad part of the song is wherer he whistles at the end. I just think it sounds hokey.

Take me away from here: Another great song, nice guitar solo in the song too!

Smilin': Good beat to this one. Not alot to say other than that.

Set This Circus Down: Hands down the worst song on the album. It isnt a total loss, i just think it isnt a good song vocals wise.

Angry All the Time: Another of the "Hit" singles. I have mixed thoughts on this song but it is on the good side of things in the end.

Let Me Love You: Just when i thought the album had nose dived, this song kicks my butt back into happy mode. Some lively vocals and nice instrumental passages.

Grown Men Don't Cry: The other bad song. Some really stupid lyrics. "So i got into my suburban and i drove away" Real dumb.

Why We Said Goodbye: Another that makes me realize he is a talented, believable musician/singer. A lost love song that makes me think his marriage had ended and he was living it.

Even if you don't like country, there is enough rock influence on this cd to overlook the country elements. Think The Eagles or maybe Lynyrd Skynyrd, but the rockier selections by those artists(Life In The Fast Lane, In The City by the Eagles are specific examples.)

- Everyone's A Hit

As an avid Tim McGraw fan, I was so pleased with his new album. Starting with #1 "The Cowboy In Me" and all the way through to the end, each one had its own wonderful quality. I played it in my office and had requests coming from patient's for more. I have made fans out of family and friends due to this new album. His first single "Grown Men Don't Cry" is so sad and true to life, and he sings it so tender. I know "Telluride" and "Take Me Away" are going to skyrocket to the top as well. I can't wait until they all come out on the radio, so everyone can hear how matured and wonderful he sounds. Try and find a song you don't like...IMPOSSIBLE. Great work! I am now more of a fan than I've ever been.

- Set This Circus Down is INCREDIBLE!!!!!

Please, don't listen to any negative comments about this album unless you're an uptight, stubborn tradionalist. However, for all of you who view his song "Things Change" as a celebration of artists who have changed the course of music history for the better, then this is the album you have been waiting for!!!

Every song is great on this cd. But the highlights include the opening song "Cowboy In Me" which is just stellar. Next comes one of my all-time favorite songs ever, "Telluride". A great up-beat song that just gets you going. Also, "You Get Used To Somebody" features superb vocals by Tim and should be released as a single. It is just an incredible song!!! Then comes "Unbroken", another hot number where Tim stretches the boundaries of Nashville. It's something different, but "things change", and Tim reminds us in the next song. Other great songs include "Angry All The Time", "Why We Said Goodbye", and "Take Me Away From Here", all of which feature Tim's trememdous soul stirring vocals and outstanding musical arrangement. There is so much meat to each and every song. Tim raises not only the Nashville standards, but music in general. This is what music should do. I haven't been able to stop listening to this cd since I bought it. It's the best album I've ever heard, bar none.

- things change

Set this circus down is a step in a different direction for Tim McGraw. While it still has the same style of his earlier albums, it also takes a deeper step into what he was attempting with "A place in the sun".

"The cowboy in me" is rockier than his usual music, and has strong guitar themes throughout it, yet the voice is still pure country, as are the lyrics. The lyrics are song, and it's either a song you get or you don't. It either will strike a chord in you, and make you sit up and realise "Hey I get that. I get what he means by the cowboy in me" or you won't.

"Teluride" talks about a young boys innocence fading, and the bittersweet remembrance of young love.

You get used to somebody is the traditional love song that appears on McGraw's album, with strong poignant lyrics such as "I never dreamed when i was letting you go that i would wake up and miss you this much" that touch even the coldest of hearts.

"Unbroken" borders on as pop country as perhaps McGraw gets, and has a great beat to it.

"Things change" is a must listen to song, and it looks at how music has changed throughout the years, and it's something a music lover who knows their music can listen to and relate to. it talks about the perjudice, and how much music has changed over the years from Elvis Presley to now. With strong guitar, and strong vocals this song is a pure winner.

The line that really touches deep is "they say it's too country, it's too rock n roll but it's only music if you can feel it in your soul." Pure magic.

I think one of the biggest gems on this album is the song "Angry all the time" which talks about the breakup of a relationship, and what made it disintegrate. the lyrics are powerful, strong, and touch deeply.

Right throughout the album the lyrics are strong, the vocals of Mcgraw goes from strength to strength.

His relationship with his group The dancehall doctors is strong, and it shows throughout the whole album.

An album worth having in the collection, and it's understandable why Mcgraw keeps on winning with his music.
