Toby Keith Album: “20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Toby Keith”

Toby Keith emerged in 1993 with the autographical hit "Should've Been A Cowboy." The rodeo's loss is country music's gain, as Keith has been one of its most dependable hitmakers over the past decade. This collection captures his first six years of hitmaking when he was on the Mercury label. Back then, his specialty was relationship songs, be they humorous ("You Ain't Much Fun"), reflective ("We Were in Love"), or wishful ("Dream Walkin'"). Best of all is the duet with Sting on "I'm So Happy I Can't Stop Crying" which hits divorce from a male perspective dead-on.

This set adds only one extra hit from GREATEST HITS, VOL. 1.: the haunting "A Woman's Touch." Meanwhile, available on GREATEST HITS, VOL. 1 but NOT here are the good ol' boy anthem "Big Ol' Truck" as well as "Getcha Some," which offered a dopey delivery reminiscent of the Beverly Hillbillies theme song ("Black Gold, Texas Tea"). Unless "A Woman's Touch" is one of your favorite Toby Keith hits, I'd definitely go with the 14-track GREATEST HITS VOL. 1 over this 12-track collection.

By the way, to the person who wonders why "How Do You Like Me Now" isn't on this set: Keith released that on his current label DreamWorks after Mercury rejected it, causing him to leave that label. There is NO WAY Toby Keith would ever let Mercury put it out on their label now.

I am a great fan of Tobey Keith's music,and I think this album is great! whether the songs are repeated on his greatest hit's or not,people who love Tobey Keith should know that no matter what album it is , We the fans are keeping him at #1. I believe that if your trying to get all his music,you should go all the way even if there's reapeats, so let's go all the way for Tobey, besides we all waste money on other things!right!

I LOVE Toby Keith but this cd is just Mercury records cashing in on Toby's success.

They didn't want him when he was signed with them. Since he hit

the big time with Dreamworks they're jumping on the bandwagon.

Everything on this cd is available on Toby's other cd's.

I love greatest hits albums that we put out before someone got MEGA-POPULAR. This is one of those. Great songwriting on this one, but not the hits you will now hear on the radio. More country than rock on this album.
