Toby Keith Album: “Big Dog Daddy”

Toby Keith Album: “Big Dog Daddy”
Description :
BIG DOG DADDY is the first album that Toby Keith wrote and produced on his own, and it features a harder edge than most of his previous records, closer to the country-rock of the Big and Rich axis than the neo-traditionalist crowd. In fact, BIG DOG DADDY seems like a sort of mid-career reset, a canny move for a country singer who sees musical trends changing on the horizon. Social trends as well: one song, "Love Me If You Can," obliquely addresses the uproar over Keith's political statements concerning the global war on terror; in the album's press materials, Keith is careful to claim allegiance to neither political party and asserts that he is in fact opposed to the Iraq war. Elsewhere, Keith wisely drops political matters entirely in favor of less incendiary country-rock topics like drinking, fighting, and women. The romantic "I Know She Hung the Moon" and the wry "High Maintenance Woman" are the album's musical and emotional poles, with hell-raising stompers like "Get My Drink On" and "Wouldn't Wanna Be Ya" sitting comfortably in the middle.

- Toby has lost it

I own every Toby Keith CD so buying this one was a no-brainer. Not only does the CD lack fun songs, but they're not catchy either. I could barely even listen to the whole thing. This CD is nowhere near the quality that How do you like me now?!, Pull my chain, Unleashed, and Shockin' Ya'll. Honkytonk U was just ok, and White trash with money had some fun songs like get drunk and be somebody, and running block.

This CD is not Toby Keith quality stuff. Borrow it from a friend to listen to it before you buy it.

- Impressive!

When I listen to a new CD, there are 3 things I judge it by.

1. Does it make me wanna move? (Ya know...twist and shout! )

2. Can I work out to it? (Not the same as making me move. Big difference. )

3. Does it inspire me to write?

There are very few CD's out there that get a resounding YES to all 3 of the above criteria BUT....let me tell you: Big Dog Daddy [BDD] by Toby Keith gets a hearty resounding 'YES' to all 3 questions. This CD is so well put together and so well balanced in its ratio of ballads to rocking good songs! I played the CD while I worked out and it was AWESOME! It made my work out go so much faster. And, as I played it for the 4th time the other day, I was suddenly inspired to start a new novel. Thanks, in part to "She Hung the Moon", "Burnin' Moonlight" "Love Me If You Can" and "Walk It Off". And, of course, you can't help but want to dance to the CD...especially the song "Big Dog Daddy". [I understand that it is Carter's Chord singing harmony on this song. They are great!] I LOVE the part of the song when Toby is hollering and having fun. The only song I really don't care for is "Get My Drink On". I'm just not a proponent for drinking songs, but I do have to say that while I don't care for the lyrics the music is really energizing and just begs you to move to it- regardless if you are exercising or grooving. ;-)

I highly recommend this album even if you aren't a country music fan. It is just a great album all the way around.

- Like it, but Toby's done better!

I love Toby Keith and really like the CD, but feel Toby's had better CD's in the past. Some really great songs, but I don't feel this is Toby's best works for the CD as a whole. He's had better, but it's a good one to have in your collection anyway if you're a Toby Keith fan.

- Big Dog Daddy

As a longtime fan of Toby Keith I found this to be a great cd to listen too. Toby has a rich, deep voice that makes any song beautiful. I couldn't pick a favorite because I loved all of them!!
