- Tom T. Hall, Bluegrass Artist

This CD is one of my favorite CDs of all time. It includes covers of other artists but it also includes a number of songs written by Tom T. Hall himself. The style is definitely pure Bluegrass and Tom has assembled a top notch bunch of Bluegrass musicians to help back him up. My three personal favorite songs are "Fox On the Run", "Molly and Tenbrooks" and "Mama's Got the Catfish Blues". However, every song is a winner and I highly recommend this CD to those Tom T. Hall fans who also like Bluegrass music.

- I too wondered if we'd ever see this on CD

I too had this on vinyl (1976) and wondered if we'd ever see it on CD. The song "Bluegrass Breakup" has haunted me; I still knew the lyrics after all these years. In fact, I found the CD searching for that song for my iPod. I was thrilled to see it on CD and am thrilled to hear it again.

There is only 1 negative: a playing time of around 1/2 hour. Other than that there no bad songs, though some stand out above the others. "Fox On The Run" is the definitive performance of this song for me; "Catfish Blues" is fun; "Magnificent Music Machine" has great harmony singing; and "Molly and Tenbrooks" is played at break-neck pace by Hall's stellar bluegrass accompanists. "Molly" even features a cameo by Bill Monroe himself - who had never played mandolin before on this song (his own) according to the liner notes.

I don't even know why I bought this way back when - I thought of Tom T. Hall as a pleasant singer of mostly silly songs like "I Like Beer" and "I Love" - but it has stayed with me through the years. His voice blends great with the twangier bluegrass harmony singers (featuring Jimmy Martin), but does have a slightly more pop feel. The players, including J.D. Crowe, are great. It is great, great, great to have this on CD. If you are a country or bluegrass fan, I can't imagine your not liking this disk - buy it!

- It's been too long!

This is a PREMIER Bluegrass Album. I bought the original vinl record...played it so much I finally copied it to Cassette Tape. Great performers, wonderful arrangements. As a equestrian of 50 years, Molly and Tenbrooks gives me goosebumps everytime I play it. If you love Bluegrass, buy this CD...not a bad song on it.
