Trisha Yearwood Album: “The Song Remembers When”
Description :
Personnel: Willie Nelson (vocals, guitar); Trisha Yearwood (vocals); George Marinelli, Brent Mason, Steuart Smith, Billy Walker Jr. (guitar); Paul Franklin (steel guitar, slide box, dobro, ped-a-bro); Jerry Douglas (dobro); Rob Hajacos (fiddle); Steve Nathan (piano, organ, keyboards); Matt Rollings (piano, keyboards); Dave Pomeroy (bass); Milton Sledge, Eddie Bayers (drums); Garth Fundis, Rodney Crowell, Lisa Angelle, Andrew Gold, Thom Flora, Raul Malo, Lisa Silver (background vocals).

Recorded at Sound Emporium, Nashville, Tennessee.

THE SONG REMEMBERS WHEN was nominated a 1995 Grammy Award for Best Country Album.

THE SONG REMEMBERS WHEN contains 15 tracks with introductions by Trisha Yearwood.

THE SONG REMEMBERS WHEN is not only the artistic highlight of Trisha's career, it is one of the best albums to come out of Nashville in years. Yearwood's soaring voice adds much to the success of the album, but the quality of the songs on this collection are so superior that Trisha is well ahead of the game before she even opens her mouth.

The award-winning title track, written by New Yorker Hugh Prestwood, is an emotionally explosive narrative ballad about the power of music. Other songs range from rock ("If I Ain't Got You") to folk ("Hard Promises To Keep"), but most don't stray away from the straight-ahead country-pop style of one of contemporary music's clearest voices. "The Nightingale," one of the most exquisite tracks on the album, shows the artistry of what an accomplished interpreter can create with a strong melody.

- Memorized every song here
This is the first country CD I ever bought. Well I shouldn't say I bought it, but it's at my house. I was only a kid and didn't know that it was uncool to like country musc. I listened, memorized and sang along on my way to becoming a country music fan. There is nothing else out there for intelligent people.
Every song is a winner as is the norm for the terrifically talented Trisha Yearwood. My faves include the title track, "The Nightengale" "Lying to the Moon" and "Here Comes Temptation." Trisha is my second favourite country singer after Shania Twain. But this album is as good as any Shania has put out. Anyone can enjoy this album wether or not you are a country fan!

- One to remember
Trisha's third album THE SONG REMEMBERS WHEN finds the singer going for a more contemporary country sound. Her strength has always been ballads, she does well with any material she sinks her teeth into, but on her ballads you really get to feel what she's saying, and it comes from the heart. The title track has to be one of her most memorable songs, a song about love lost and remembering it. She does a good version of her idol Linda Ronstadt's "Mr. Radio", and Rodney Crowell's "I Don't Fall In Love So Easy". Other highlights include "Better Your Heart Than Mine", "One In A Row" and the closing "Lying to The Moon". Only a real singer can deliver the image from the heart of the song. Yearwood here is the heart of the song itself.

- Beautiful
This was my 1st Trisha Yearwood album and one of my favorites. I originally acquired this album shortly after it's initial release and witnessing a televised performance of the title song. I was instantly a fan for her strong, yet gentle vocals!
While I sadly lost my original copy! Thanks to Amazon, I am able to enjoy this album once again!

- An album full of quality ballads
I became a fan of Trisha's from the time I played her debut album, which was full of songs that grabbed my attention instantly. This album is not like that at all - it is one of those albums that sounds more impressive each time you play it. This album is dominated by reflective ballads that suit Trisha ideally. If you want to hear Trisha sing more up-tempo material, there isn't much here, although you will enjoy If I ain't got you.
Among the great ballads here, the title track (about how hearing a certain song can bring back memories), Mr Radio (a cover of a song previously recorded by Linda Ronstadt for her 1982 album, Get closer), One in a row (a cover of an old Willie Nelson song), I don't fall in love so easy (a Rodney Crowell song), The nightingale (an excellent original song) and Lying to the moon (a song written and first recorded by Matraca Berg) are particularly noteworthy, but every song here is a gem.
This is a masterpiece from one of the finest country singers of her generation.

- Nice collection of songs!
THE SONG REMEMBERS WHEN is not quite as enjoyable as previous releases, but there are songs that make listening fun. Gosh, the title song is just soooo beautiful! "If I Ain't Got You," "One In A Row" written by Willie Nelson, and the touching Matraca Berg tune, "Lying To The Moon" are also great songs. And then there are the singles... I really found this CD harder to get into than prior releases, though it is a pleasant collection to listen to.
