Waylon Jennings Album: “#1 Nashville Outlaw”

Waylon Jennings Album: “#1 Nashville Outlaw”
Description :
Personnel: Waylon Jennings (vocals, guitar); Paul Foster (bass guitar); Richard D. Albright (drums). <p>This selection of Waylon Jennings tracks from between the late 1950s and the mid-'60s reveals that the future outlaw country star spent his early years in the music business in search of a style. It includes his innovative version of the Cajun classic "Jole Blon," produced by Buddy Holly, for whom Jennings played bass before Holly's tragic death in 1958, as well as the Roy Orbison-like "Crying." His version of Dylan's "Don't Think Twice" conjures George Jones, an impression that's reinforced with his cover of "White Lightnin'." "It's So Easy" evokes Buddy Holly with its "Peggy Sue" drumming, and the singer of the staid pop song "Abilene" is a world away from the hell-raiser who spearheaded the outlaw country movement in the early 1970s.

- Waylon's first recordings

These tracks are on numerous albums and there is misinformation on most of them. Jole Blon/When Sin Stops is Waylon's first single produced by Buddy Holly. Buddy Holly plays guitar but is not singing nor did he write the songs on these two tracks. The other tracks are from Waylon's first album...a promotional album "Waylon Jennings at JD's" recorded in 1964. His band, the Waylors are backing him. Band member, Jerry Gropp, rhythm guitar sings Money. Paul Foster, bass sings Lorena. Waylon, Paul & Gerry are singing Abilene. On most album playlists, Waylon is listed as singing all the songs. A mere 2000 albums were made. In July, 1969, Decca Records bought the masters and issued "Waylon Jennings" on their Vocalion label.
