Waylon Jennings Album: “Ultimate Waylon Jennings”
Description :
Personnel includes: Waylon Jennings (vocals, guitar); Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson.

Recorded between 1968 & 1986. Includes liner notes by Lenny Kaye.

The 2004 collection ULTIMATE WAYLON JENNINGS has a lot in common with the 1996 ESSENTIAL WAYLON JENNINGS. Both are single-disc, career-spanning RCA anthologies that contain most of the late country legend's biggest hits. Due to the enormity of Jennings's catalogue, one CD simply can't hold every major Jennings tune, but these compilations include a remarkable amount of top-notch material. There's significant overlap between the two, but some differences as well. ULTIMATE one-ups ESSENTIAL by featuring Waylon's incisive version of Neil Young's "Are You Ready for the Country," the definitive early hit "This Time," and the self-mythologizing anthems "Luckenbach, Texas" and "I'm a Ramblin' Man." There was a notable drop-off in the quality of Jennings's '80s work, but ULTIMATE wisely focuses on the Outlaw Country pioneer's '70s salad days, presenting a credible case for Jennings as one of the finest country singers of his generation.

- Best "Greatest Hits" to Date
Of all of Waylon's so-called "greatest hits" collections out there, this one comes closest to living up to its name.

- A must for a classic country rotation
If you're looking for the "best of" various artists for your classic country playlist, this album is a must. The size of the talent and the impact to country music cannot be overestimated -- but beyond that, it's just plain good music. (My only complaint is that in the remix, the fades were shortchanged, so if you listen to music with a "studio ear" be forewarned that this might bug you.) Otherwise, flawless.

- Wailin Waylon
It's always good to hear Waylon, & this greatest hits covers most stuff. I would have liked to have had more examples of his work with Chet & some with Jesse, but what are ya gonna do. The man sang with the voice of God, a powerful virile, awe-inspiring baritone, yet full of tremulous emotion-sometimes wracked with the pain of life's mistakes & broken hearts, often self depracating humor. Any one who knew him or saw him in concert knew he was funnier then the hell he often sang about, a trait he shared with Elvis. If you only have room for one Waylon cd on your shelves, this is the one to own

- waylon rules
this is an awsome, album' there is 22 great tunes by waylon jennings that we all know and love, most of us grew up on these songs, i think there is alot more hits that could have and should have been on here too, but then i guess you'd have a double album or more if that was the case. but as a sigle album this one is hard to beat. you cant go wrong with the outlaw king. long live waylon waymore jennings.
