This two disc boxed set needs no review. Read the play list. Almost all of the epic classics from the apex of this great man's career.
I'm not even sure if this is still being made today. Get it while you can, along with the new Expanded WAYLON LIVE CD!
I bought this box set way back in the day, must been around 1995 or so, just going by memory. It starts with early Waylon with songs like "Only daddy that'll walk the line" which went to No. 2 in 1966. All the way up to the minor hit "looking for Suzanne" in 1984. It's a great set, but even so, some songs are left out "Can't you see" for one. It easily couda and shouda been a 4 or 5 cd set.
Infact I really don't like to call a 2 CD set a BOX set, but it came in a large size box and with a full size booklet, if this was realised today, it would be just as a 2 CD set. That being said tho, the CD's are PACKED, I mean they used up all the minutes on them, so you get your money's worth.
It also comes with a pretty good full sized Booklet, packed with photo's and essay on Waylon. They dont make box sets like this anymore. If you want a very good sampling of Waylon, I highly recommend this, or as a Waylon starter kit, but the best way to go is just buy ALL of Waylon's albums. SOME of the Songs included are: The Taker, This Time, rainy day Woman, T for Texas, Bob Wills is still the ing, Are you Ready for the country, Dont you think this outlaw bit's done got out of hand, Clyde, Looking for Suzanne, Dukes of Hazzard, Amanada, Dreaming my Dreams, Aint living long like this, Ramblin' Man, Lonesome, Onry and mean, jack of Diamonds, Waymores Blues, The Conversation, Dont let your babies grow up to be cowboys, Shine, Lucille, Never could toe the mark.....40 songs total
The complete RCA recordings is a gem. Take it from a true classic country man, this collection is very good and will make a fine addition to any country collection. There really isn't a bad song on either CD and the collection will most likely have all of your favorites that you have heard on the radio.
"It's one of the great journeys in American music, and no other Waylon Jennings compilation tells the story so well and offers so much great, timeless music as this essential set." ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
I couldn't say it any better that Mr. Erlewine.
