grab this 4 disc properbox & the muddy waters 4 disc properbox 'king of chicago blues', load them into your cd player, grab an adult beverage & sit back & hit play...it don't get better.
Another great release from Proper Records. Hard to be belive that it's possible release such a quality well-researched collection at this price.
The box contains most of the material recorded and released by Woody Guthrie during 1940-45. The sound quality is quite good, but of course uneven. Interesting that the best sounding recordings are the earliest from the album "Dust Bowl Ballads".
I would have liked to hear some of Guthrie's children songs recorded in the late forties released on the albums "Nursery Days" and "Songs to Grow on for Mother and Child", but fans will have to get these recording on seperate releases. Serious illness made it impossible for Guthrie to record during the last years of his life and these children songs were among the last recordings he was able to do.
Musically the this is an impressive collection and extensive source of great folk-songs. Moreover there is a a fine well-researched 48 pages booklet with biography and discography. Highly recommendable
thank you for the service it was very prompt & the disc didn't take long to come for the other side of the world to me
