CARRYING YOUR LOVE WITH ME is a collection of love songs of unusual sweetness and devotion. Even when he's saying goodbye, or warning a friend of an ex-girlfriend's wily ways, George Strait does it with a fond memory. "I've Got A Funny Feeling" may be the first cheating song in history in which the singer, after discovering his baby's cheating ways, decides that it's all his own fault and that he's just going to have to become a better person and a better lover if he wants her back. And because Strait's baritone drawl is an instrument of such warmth and magnetism, you've got to figure she's going to end up coming back anyway.

CARRYING YOUR LOVE WITH ME follows up Strait's 1996 blockbuster BLUE CLEAR SKY, and maintains the same balance of soft, devotional ballads and playful come-ons with yelping fiddles and crying steel guitars. It includes a cover of Vern Gosdin's divorce ballad "Today My World Slipped Away." More telling is the swinging honky-tonk number "Won't You Come Home (And Talk To A Stranger)," in which his wife catches up to him and his drinking buddies at the bar and plays the same puppy-dog game he does. She doesn't chew him out and she doesn't whine. She just coos, "Come home, baby." And you know he will.

- Deserving of Album Of The Year!
George's second in a row album of the year winner from both the ACM's & CMA's is deserving of the honor. Every track is a gem, but my very favorite is his remake of the old Vern Gosden hit "Today My World Slipped Away". No offense Vern, but George nails this one as no one else could!!! It makes me wish that George would re-record a lot of old favorites and make them his own!

- His way of putting together songs is remarkable.
This is a very touching set of songs. All of George Straits songs and albums are great but this one touched my heart especially. When my grandfather was taking his last few breaths of life in the hospic unit in Duluth, MN we turned the radio on to a country station because he had always liked country music. Well, when we turned it on, George Strait's "Today My World Slipped Away" came on and we listened to the whole song and both the song and my grandpa's life ended at the same time. It was really weird. So his world slipped away from him and I couldn't do anything about it to help him. I am so glad I have the hope of the ressurrection in the near future. With out that, My world would have probably slipped away as well because me and him were very close. I like all of George Strait's CD's but this one touches my heart especially because of that one song.

- Another great one from the King!
I've heard many people say that since the mid-90's, King George has just been going through the motions, and not putting out anything more than a few good singles, and filler tracks. Well, folks, that's just plain wrong! To me, it sounds like, too many Country "fans" are just "going through the motions" and buying only newer artists, and leaving the classics behind. In 1997, I can think of only a handful of real quality CDs that could match the greatness that is 'Carrying Your Love With Me."
George seemed like he was very careful, and focused while selecting tracks for this one. They all work very well together, and at the same time, I would have accepted gladly, any of these songs as stand-alone singles.
While the album does boast a handful of hits, there are a few of the non-hits on here that really make the album special. Namely, a song called "She'll Leave You With a Smile." not to be confused with the single of the same name that Strait released a few years later. This song could make a top ten list from King George if i were to construct such a thing. His vocal delivery on the track is a powerful as I've ever heard it.
Also, the song "Wont You Come Home" is a classic-style honky-tonker from the man who does them better than anyone. A song that could have been released within Strait's first four albums, or even on one of his latest productions.
All in all, it's hard to put a ranking on this one in regards to all George's albums, since he has so much quality material out there to pick from, but when put up against its contemporaries, I defy you to find a better CD. As always, we know what to expect from Strait, and this is it... Strait COUNTRY!
