- Hard to find early Hank material

This CD consists of Hank Jr's older stuff from the 60's and early 70's. Most of it's pretty good, and hard to find material. It's an import from England which is suprising that England would ever release a country music CD. "Living Proof" and "Stoned at the Jukebox" from Hank and Friends are easily the best on the CD, but I liked "Old Ryman" "Nobody's Child" and "Cajun Baby" If you are into older country or Hank and have never heard this material, it may be of interest to you.

- Early Hank Jr

The tracks on this compilation were recorded from 1964 to 1975. The first track, is a good one, "Long Gone Lonesome Blues" from his first album, HANK WILLIAMS JR SINGS THE SONGS OF HANK WILLIAMS released when he was 15 years old. "Endless Sleep" was a non album single, also released in 1964. Track three, "Your Cheating Heart" is from the soundtrack of the movie of the same name, in which George Hamilton played the part of Hank Williams Sr, with Hank Jr singing the songs. "Standing In The Shadows" is a great self written song from 1966. I still have the 1968 45rpm vinyl single of track 6, "I Wouldn't Change A Thing About You(but your name)", which he also wrote. His father made quite a few recordings under the name Luke The Drifter. One of my favorites on this cd, again self written, "I Was With Red Foley(the night he passed away), from 1968, was on the first of three albums Hank Jr recorded under the name Luke The Drifter Jr. "Custody", written by Hank, and "Be Careful Of Stones You Throw", previously recorded by his father, are from Luke The Drifter Jr II, released in 1969. One of his best songs, "Cajun Baby", which I believe was partly written by his father, and finished by himself, is from his 1969 album SONGS MY FATHER LEFT ME. He also does a good job on the Tony Joe White song, "Rainy Night In Georgia" released in 1973. The final two tracks, "Stoned At The Jukebox", released as a single in 1975, and "Living Proof", released as a single in 1976, are from the last album he recorded before his near fatal accident, on August 8, 1975, when he fell over 400 feet off a mountain. The album HANK WILLIAMS JR AND FRIENDS was recorded, according to his autobiography, LIVING PROOF, in Muscle Shoals, Alabama between February and July of 1975. It was released in December of that year. The "friends" who played on the album included Waylon Jennings, Charlie Daniels and Toy Caldwell(Marshal Tucker Band). When Hank Jr recovered from his accident, he came back to become one of the biggest stars ever, of country music and southern rock. THE ESSENTIAL HANK WILLIAMS JR is a very good collection of his early recordings, and it would be hard to find most of these tracks elsewhere.

- Great service as usual

I was very pleased as I have been with nearly all of my Amazon purchases. My order came in a short amount of time and in wonderful condition. With some other companies I've had CDs show up in broken or cracked cases. Thanks for a great job!
