- Let's hear it for The Guys of the Big "D"!

Another outstanding release in the Legends of the Big "D" Jamboree series. Like last year's "Gals" disc, this one mostly features studio cuts alongside just a sprinking of live recordings, but it also emulates that release with its fine mix of artists, ranging from a couple of rare recordings by the legendary Lefty Frizzell to outstanding cuts from guys like Riley Crabtree, Jimmy Fields, Leroy Jenkins and Orville Couch. A personal favorite, Gene O'Quin (the guy Wayne Hancock got his sound from), also is represented with two cuts. This disc is more country and lighter on the rockabilly than previous releases, but it's still essential stuff. - Roots & Rhtyhm
